It's hard to have more fun on four wheels than with a Jeep CJ7, especially one as spectacular as this black 1981 Renegade. With a full frame-off restoration, it hasn't even seen a gravel road, let alone serious off-roading yet, but it's ready, willing, and able, particularly with that rumbling 360 under the hood. We're finally getting to the point where these CJs are legitimate collector's items, but you'll probably discover that very few are restored to this level. Thanks to a full frame-off rebuild, it now wears a fresh fiberglass body tub and steel front clip, completely solving the CJ's biggest problem: rust. The shape is unmistakable, especially with the doors and top removed, and thanks to a new black paint job and a set of authentic Renegade decals, it looks incredible. Professionally restored last winder by a builder specializing in early Jeeps, you'll find solid workmanship throughout, and while a lot of these CJs led hard lives, this one has obviously been taking it easy since the work was complete. Inside, this one is almost too nice to venture into the dirt, with beautiful high-back buckets with fresh black seat covers and a matching rear bench. There's also a useful center console with storage and cup holders, and a pair of nice-fitting rubber floor mats over the floors, which wear a spray-on bedliner material for durability and low maintenance. With fresh reproduction gauges installed during the build, this CJ7 wears just over 6700 miles since the restoration was completed. Power steering makes it surprisingly easy to navigate the lightweight 4x4 through traffic, but forget a radio, because this sucker's entertaining enough all by itself. Full seatbelts, a new chrome grab handle for your passenger, as well as the stout roll bar overhead, provide confidence that if you choose to get this one dirty, you'll be well-protected. The steering column was upgraded to tilt during the build, and in case of inclement weather, there's a temporary bikini top that can be thrown on in a few seconds. During the restoration, the builder of this one chose to do things right, and then some. Several engines were considered, but in the end they settled on the biggest thing they could squeeze into the engine bay: a fully built muscle-bound 360 cubic inch V8 which exhibits serious excess horsepower. An Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor is tucked under and open-element filter for maximum ventilation, and a HEI ignition system lights the fires. Long-tube headers dump directly into a set of side pipes tucked up tight under the body for maximum ground clearance and a spectacular stereo sound. Underneath this Jeep you'll find fully rebuilt components, including the massive 360 V8, upgraded 4-speed manual transmission, and transfer case, so it's ready to plunge into the nastiest terrain you can manage. Beefy Rancho shocks manage a full suspension lift kit, which provides plenty of ground clearance for some pretty hairy rock-crawling and leaves room for the giant 33x12.50-15 Goodyear Wranglers on custom chrome wheels. A muscle car for the dirt? You'd better believe it. Want to go anywhere, climb anything and never worry about rust again? This just might be the Jeep for you.
