Austin Healey 3000 Mk III Phase 1
French registration. - The desirable Mk III - Professional restoration by Lecoq - Significant mechanical improvements The Austin Healey Mk III BJ8 was built from the beginning of 1964. Powered by twin SU carburettors, the engine power increased to 148bhp at 5250rpm, helped by a redesigned exhaust system, and complemented by a new dashboard and a vacuum brake booster as standard equipment for this final version. Donald Healey imposed other improvements on this model too amongst others was a new steering box, better insulation for the cockpit, winding windows, and better coil springs for the front suspension, with a slightly raised rear suspension raised. Having built 1,389 units, the company decided a few small changes were needed, including increased ground clearance, a better location of the rear axle, bigger front disc brakes, etc. This is why - in an informal way - the first 1,389 cars were referred to as the 3000 Mk III phase 1 and phase 2 was what followed. The car on offer is a classical BJ8 convertible painted in its original "Healey blue" colour with "old English white" hood, with the seats and vinyl hood in blue. The current owner bought it in December 2001 through Poulain Le Fur, when it was in very good original condition and operation, but decided in 2006 to nonetheless carry out another full restoration work at Lecoq. The car was stripped, painted and fitted with its current livery. The suspensions were completely redone with Phase 2 specifications. The brakes were also redone and Dunlop discs were mounted at the rear like in the latest factory Big Healey Rally cars from 1968. An electronic ignition, an electric fan and a fuel tank made of aluminum have been installed along with a melodious side exhaust. This is a beautiful example of a one of the most desirable of Austin Healey's 3-litres sports car that we offer, with very fine records of invoices for both maintenance and restoration from 2002 to 2011. In the last 10 ears the car has barely covered 300 miles!
