Lotus Elan 2 2
English V5 FFVE certificate and technical inspection - Restaured in Italy - Sporty 4 seaters - Funny Zagato style specification - The only Lotus for big pilotes In October 1962, Lotus announced the replacement for the Lotus Elite. It was a small masterpiece from the late Colin Chapman who put a stroke of genius into this little roadster that handles amazingly. The formula was simple: an engine derived from a mass-produced Ford, a single chassis to reinforce a resin and fibreglass bodyshell, a close ratio gearbox, four disc brakes and a hood. In one shot, after producing the exclusive and expensive Elite, Lotus became a fully fledged manufacturer. The Elan 2 sprang from a simple idea. Colin Chapman, wishing to keep the clientele of young fathers from wealthy families who had reluctantly given up their Elans, created a smaller version with two extra seats. This model was a way for Lotus to attract more affluent new customers who were more concerned with comfort and luxury. With the 2, the brand focused on the production of GT cars. The car has undergone extensive restoration beginning with the chassis, while the bodyshell has been stripped, mechanical parts restored (file photo) and an Ansa exhaust has been fitted. Over €20,000 has been spent but the invoices are unavailable. The car was completed in summer 2010 and has only covered a few dozen kilometres. Today, this tiny car belongs to Artcurial Briest, Poulain F.Tajan. It's funny to notice that the roof has a double bubble in the purest Zagato style to accommodate tall people. It is rare to find an Elan 2 2 in such good condition.
