Vincent 500 Comet Series C
British registration Engine # F5/AB/2A/7472 - Very nice presentation - Matching numbers - Beautiful condition When we speak of Vincent, we immediately think of the flagship model of the brand, the 1000 V-twin. But one mustn't forget that the first motorcycle designed by Australian engineers Phil Irving and Philip Vincent was a 500 OHV which appeared in 1934 under the name of Meteor and in more athletic form with the name Series A Comet. This bike was characterized by its engine camshaft and placed high enough operating short push rods. The Series C, proposed in 1948 and saw it being produced till 1954, was a bike very well finished which had a design similar to that of its big brother, with a suspended motor, oscillating rear suspension and Girdraulic fork. The Comet even if it was less powerful than the 1000, was also lighter, more maneuverable, and easier to ride with double drums that allowed for more effective braking, for its time. With its 26bhp engine revving up to 5600rpm, and with a machine that weighed barely 175kg, the bike exceeded 150 km/h. The Vincent Comet we present was purchased by a British collector, who had himself acquired the bike from another enthusiast who had kept it for many years and had to be separated from it at the age of 80 years! During this period, the bike had benefited from a restoration, after which it has only covered 750 miles. It has some modernization techniques that facilitate the use, such as an electronic ignition instead of a magneto system, a carburetor and an integral Lucas lighting system which is more efficient. The bike, which is equipped with its original engine is presented in superb condition. It was the only bike from our English collector, and he was particularly attached to his Comet. It is accompanied by its English, old MOT and restoration bills. A beautiful machine that is typically English with its big cylinder and is more exclusive than the bikes with a brand name that is already one of the most important in the world.
