1964 Facel Vega Facel III coupé ch.C265 ( EUR 29950 )

(from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Facel Vega was a French manufacturer of automobiles from 1954 to 1964.
The company was named after the original metal stamping company FACEL, and the company's first model, the Vega, named after the star,[1] was introduced at the 1954 Paris Auto Show. The cars were advertised with the slogan For the Few Who Own the Finest.
Initially successful, the company failed after the debut of its mechanically troubled Facellia model.
The marque Facel Vega was created in 1954 by Jean Daninos (brother of the humorist Pierre Daninos, who wrote Les Carnets du Major Thompson), although the Facel company had been established by the Bonzavia Company in 1939 as a subcontracting company for the aviations industry. FACEL (Forges et Ateliers de Construction d'Eure-et-Loir, in English: forge and construction workshop of the department of Eure-et-Loir) was initially a metal-stamping company but decided to expand into car manufacturing in the early 1950s. Facel entered the automobile business as a supplier of special bodies for Panhard, Delahaye and Simca.
Small numbers of other special bodied cars such as the Bentley pictured were also made, and Facel made the pillarless coupé bodywork for the Simca/Ford Comète. Around 45,000 Comètes were built, this lucrative contract enabling Facel to market a car of their own.
The Vega production cars (Facel FV, later and more famously the HK500) appeared in 1954 using Chrysler V8 engines, at first a 4.5-litre (275 cu in) DeSoto Hemi engine; the overall engineering was straightforward, with a tubular chassis, double wishbone suspension at the front and a solid driven axle at the back, as in standard American practice. They were also as heavy as American cars, at about 1,800 kg (3,968 lb). Performance was brisk, with an approx 190 km/h (118 mph) top speed and 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under ten seconds.
Most cars were 2-door hardtops with no centre pillar, but a few convertibles were built.
The 1956 model was improved with a bigger 5.4-litre (330 cu in) Chrysler engine and updated transmission and other mechanicals. In the same year production began of a four-door model, the Excellence, with rear-hinged doors (suicide doors) at the back and no centre pillar. The pillarless design unfortunately made it less rigid and the handling was thus poorer than that of the two-door cars, and surviving examples are rare.
1959 models had even bigger engines, a 5.8-litre (354 cu in) and later a 6.28-litre (383 cu in) Chrysler V8, and were quite a bit faster despite their extra weight. The final evolution of the V8 models came in 1962 with the Facel II, which was lighter, with sleeker, more modern lines, substantially faster still, and famously elegant.
In 1960, Facel entered the sports car market with the Facellia, a small car similar in size to the then popular Mercedes 190SL. Facellias were advertised in three body styles: cabriolet, 2 2 coupé and 4-seat coupé — all with the same mechanicals and a 2,450 mm (96.5 in) wheelbase. Styling was similar to the Facel HK500, but with rather elegant (though fingernail-breaking) flush door handles. Following Facel Vega's demise several of M Daninos's styling cues were "borrowed" by Mercedes-Benz. Prices were roughly US$4,000 for the Facellia, US$5,500 for the Facel III and US$6,000 for the Facel 6.
With the idea of creating a mass-produced all-French sports car competing with the Alfa Romeos, Facel moved away from American engines. The Facellia had a 4-cylinder 1.6 L DOHC engine built in France by Paul Cavallier of the Pont-à-Mousson company (which already provided manual gear boxes for the company's larger models). The engine had only two bearings supporting each camshaft, using special steels, as opposed to the usual four or five. Despite the metallurgical experience of Pont-à-Mousson, this resulted in excessive flex, timing problems and frequent failures. The engine was pronounced a disaster and the Facellia with it. Company president, Jean Daninos having been obliged to resign in August 1961 in response to the company's financial problems, the new boss, a former oil company executive called André Belin, gave strict instructions to the after-sales department to respond to customer complaints about broken Facellia engines by replacing the units free of charge without creating "difficulties". The strategy was intended to restore confidence among the company's customer base. It would certainly have created a large hole in the income statement under the "warranty costs" heading, but it may have been too late for customer confidence.
The troublesome engine was replaced with a Volvo P1800 powerplant in the Facel III, but the damage was done. Production was stopped in 1963 and despite the vision of it being a "volume" car only 1100 were produced, which is Facel's highest production number. Facel lost money on every car they built, the luxury car side of the company being supported entirely by the other work done by Facel Metallon, Jean Daninos's obsession being very similar to that of David Brown of Aston Martin.
The small Facellia met with little success and the losses from this, due to strong competition at the luxury end of the market, killed off the company. Facel left the car market completely in 1964. What was, according to some, the best small Facel, the Facel 6, which used an Austin Healey 2.8-litre engine, came too late to save the company, fewer than 30 having been produced when the French government scuttled the endeavour.

The Jaguar Mark VII was a large four-door sports saloon car launched by Jaguar Cars of Coventry at the 1950 London Motor Show. It replaced the Jaguar Mark V, but as there was a Bentley Mark VI already on the market, Jaguar decided to call the next model Mark VII. A version of the Jaguar Mark V with the XK engine had been designated the Jaguar Mark VI, but it is thought that only two were built. The Mk VII chassis came from the Jaguar Mark V with which the Mark VII shared its 10 feet (3,048.0 mm) wheelbase. But for this latest offering Jaguar designed a modern and streamlined looking body, featuring fully integrated headlights and mudguards along with an increased rear overhang which gave the car enhanced presence. As on the Mark V, the upper part of the rear wheels was covered by the body work (properly called spats, and removable for flat tyre wheel changes). In place of its predecessor's flat windscreen, the Mark VII design included a two piece front screen, adumbrating the gently curved one piece screen that would become available with the Jaguar Mark VIII. The predecessor model had been powered by an engine of prewar design, originally developed by the Standard Motor Company. The Mark VII featured the remarkable newly developed XK engine first seen in production form in the 1948 XK120.[4] The 3442 cc straight-six engine provided the same 160 bhp (119.3 kW) power output in this application as in the Mark VII's sports car contemporary. Despite its size, a top speed in excess of 100 mph (160 km/h) was claimed for the Mark VII.

The Jaguar E-Type (a.k.a. Jaguar XK-E) is a British sports car, manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1974. Its combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. More than 70,000 E-Types were sold.
In March 2008, the Jaguar E-Type ranked first in a The Daily Telegraph online list of the world's "100 most beautiful cars" of all time.
In 2004, Sports Car International magazine placed the E-Type at number one on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 1960s.
The E-Type was initially designed and shown to the public as a rear-wheel drive grand tourer in two-seater coupé form (FHC or Fixed Head Coupé) and as a two-seater convertible (OTS or Open Two Seater). A "2 2" four-seater version of the coupé, with a lengthened wheelbase, was released several years later.
On its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made".
Later model updates of the E-Type were officially designated "Series 2" and "Series 3", and over time the earlier cars have come to be referred to as, sensibly, "Series 1" and "Series 1½".
Of the "Series 1" cars, Jaguar manufactured some limited-edition variants, inspired by motor racing :
The "'Lightweight' E-Type" which was apparently intended as a sort of follow-up to the D-Type. Jaguar planned to produce 18 units but ultimately only a dozen were reportedly built. Of those, two have been converted to Low-Drag form and two others are known to have been wrecked and deemed to be beyond repair, although one has now been rebuilt. These are exceedingly rare and sought after by collectors.
The "Low Drag Coupé" was a one-off technical exercise which was ultimately sold to a Jaguar racing driver. It is presently believed to be part of the private collection of the current Viscount Cowdray.
The New York City Museum of Modern Art recognised the significance of the E-Type's design in 1996 by adding a blue roadster to its permanent design collection, one of only six automobiles to receive the distinction.
Hallmarks of Series 2 cars are open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers, better cooling aided by an enlarged "mouth" and twin electric fans, and uprated brakes. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial "ribbed" appearance. It was de-tuned in the US with twin Strombergs and larger valve clearances, but in the UK retained triple SUs and the much tighter valve clearances. (Late Series 1½ cars also had ribbed cam covers). The interior and dashboard were also redesigned; rocker switches that met US health and safety regulations were substituted for toggle switches. The dashboard switches also lost their symmetrical layout. New seats were fitted, which purists claim lacked the style of the originals but were certainly more comfortable. Air conditioning and power steering were available as factory options.
Specifications. Body : length/width/height/wheelbase – cm (in) : 445/163/122/244 (175.2/64.3/48/2516); weight : 1140 kg (2516 lb).
Engine : front-mounted straight 6 4235 cc, 3 SU HD8 carburettors, 12 valves, 3 speed, automatic, rear-wheel drive. Maximum power : 228 bhp at 5400 rpm; torque : 385 Nm at 4000 rpm. Top speed : 236 km/h (147 mph); 0-60 mph in 7.3 sec.

Chequered Flag International is pleased to offer this 1963 Triumph TR3B in White with Red interior & white soft top. Very good car throughout. Decent older paint. Decent older interior with soft top & side curtains. Runs & drives nicely. TR3B is a rare incarnation of the TR3, it had the newer drivetrain that was designed for the TR4 with a 2138cc engine and a fully synchronized gearbox - it was built concurrently with the early TR4's because the dealers thought that people wouldn't like the new TR4. The B is the true evolution of the species and quite rare. This 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera . It is equipped with a 5 Speed Manual transmission. The vehicle is Red with a Black Leatherette interior. It is offered As-Is, not covered by a warranty. - 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa Chassis No. 9114410058 Engine No. 6340677 Original Numbers-Matching Carrera Targa All Books, Tools & Accessories Well-Maintained & Regularly Serviced The Carrera Targa was an evolution of the European Carrera RS and first introduced as the 'American Carreras' in 1974. They were given the same engine as the 911S with wider rear tires and a 'ducktail' rear spoiler. Distinguishing them form other 911s, distinctive Carrera lettering on the lower body-sides was a prominent and easily identifiable display. The Carrera Targa presented here is considered the most desirable and best performing model in the standard 1974 U.S. Porsche lineup. Finished in Guards (India) Red paintwork over Black leatherette on wide Fuchs wheels equipped with optional Targa top, rear spoiler, tinted glass, Pirelli Tires and originally purchased by a Dr. Elliott of Moline, Illinois from Rexroat Porsche Audi, Inc. In the years following, the succeeding stewards have been careful to meticulously document the Carrera's servicing and ownership history, as well as regularly maintain the vehicle. Only 246 examples of the Carrera targa were produced in 1974 and this particular example shows in great overall condition as a driver, wearing proper livery throughout with good paint, rubbers, and an interior equally as nice and well-maintained. All glass is original to the car; accessories include air conditioning with modern R134A refrigerant and compressor, Hella fog lamps, Alpine stereo, protective front bra and car cover. The electronics, lights, and all other instrumentation work as they should. Gaps are even and the underside is solid and lacks any signs of corrosion. In conjunction with its Super engine, the 1974 Carrera is the epitome of serious Stuttgart performance cloaked in trendsetting Porsche design. The motor runs very well and shifting is tight through all gears and the four-wheel disc brakes grab as intended. Recent services include a flush of the fluids and new plugs as regularly scheduled. Included with the 911 is the original matching spare assembly, tool roll, rare Webster air compressor, black and red keys in fob, Owner's Manual, Emissions booklet in pouch, 1981-2012 maintenance journal, parts receipts and service invoices from 1984-2012! Classic 911s have become highly collectable investments with a large worldwide following of enthusiasts. The Carrera Targa makes a great entry into the club and exemplifies what remains perhaps one of the most drivable and readily enjoyable sports cars. 1979 Chevrolet Corvette ( USD 14995 )

$

This 1979 Corvette offers a sinister black paint job, a beautiful and rare Oyster leather interior, and with its original 350/4-speed powertrain, it's a great entry-level 'Vette that will get you into all the big events and put a smile on your face every time you crack the throttle. 1978 was the first year of the fastback styling, and in 1979 not much changed simply because they could sell every Corvette they could build. While some wax nostalgic over red Corvettes, it's only the black ones that truly fulfill the car's mission of intimidation on the street-people just don't want to mess with a black 'Vette. More understated than the pace cars and Anniversary models from the previous year, but emphasizing the bulging fenders, there was no doubt that this was a high performance machine. The repaint was nicely done, although you can't blame the owner for driving it afterwards-who wouldn't want to show it off? Just lift off the T-tops and hit the road! Oyster leather is a dramatic choice with the inky black bodywork, and the combination really works without looking dated. With a patina that suggests gentle use and regular care, the seats are inviting like your favorite recliner. The door panels, carpets, and dash pad are also original, and save for some wear at the lower edge of the driver's door, remain in excellent condition. Corvettes came loaded with just about everything GM could throw at a car in 1979, including A/C, power windows, tilt and telescoping wheel, rear defrost, and a standard anti-theft system. The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels great in your hands, and the shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission falls easily to hand just inches away. An upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/CD head unit replaces the original, which probably included an 8-track, and has been expertly installed with a pair of amplifiers and a subwoofer neatly integrated into the rear bulkhead. The original, matching-numbers 350 cubic inch V8 still lives under the hood, and it's nice to see that it hasn't been tinkered with or modified in any significant way. It's no secret that some Corvettes led hard lives, but this one seems to have been cherished since it was new and shows signs of conscientious maintenance. The 4-speed manual transmission was a relatively rare option in 1979, suggesting changing demographics, and in a year where nearly 60,000 Corvettes were built (still the top year of Corvette production) only 4,062 cars were manuals, making this car quite rare. Key it up, however, and the car speaks to you, begging you to run it through the gears, and it sounds powerful, even with a stock-style exhaust system complete with its original catalytic converter. It's quite clean underneath, too, more proof that it comes from a fair climate. The only real deviation from stock are some great looking 17-inch aluminum wheels wearing 245/45/17 high-performance radials. C3 Corvettes represent a ton of bang for the buck, but only for the moment, and this 4-speed 1979 model is a great way to get into the Corvette hobby for not a lot of money. Call today! 1965 Shelby Cobra ( USD 28995 )

We see a lot of Cobra replicas and the bottom line is always the same: why waste time building one when you can own this one right now? With a 302, five gears in the transmission, and that slick Hertz paint scheme, there's a lot to like here, all for a very affordable price. The kit is from Classic Roadsters LTD, who have been building Cobras almost as long as Carroll Shelby himself. They might have altered the proportions a bit, but there's no mistaking this slick snake and the longer cockpit makes for a far more user-friendly machine. Finish quality is quite good, and for a black 'glass Cobra that doesn't cost $75,000, it looks phenomenal. They took it easy on the addons, so it has a slick, purposeful look that lets the shape do all the talking, and the gold stripes offer a retro touch that Ford fans will love. You'll never get tired of the view over the curvaceous hood and the stereo sound of those satin black side pipes that add to the industrial look. It only shows about 4300 miles since it was built, so everything remains in excellent condition, and it's quite obvious that someone loved this one. The low-back buckets look very much like those in an original Cobra and form the foundation of a very driver-oriented interior. They're brand new and couldn't have been cheap, but they add a great deal to the interior, which captures the feel of the original. A full array of gauges are stacked in the flat-faced dash, and the fat Momo steering wheel transmits everything the front wheels are doing directly to your cerebellum. And you can just forget about Cobras being uncivilized brutes, because this one offers A/C and a great-sounding AM/FM/cassette stereo system that you probably won't use anyway-you'll be too busy blipping the throttle on downshifts and listening to the exhaust cackling away just a few inches below your left ear. Carpets and wind wings help add to the civilized feel, so you can cruise long distances without feeling like you spent 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. A carbureted 302 cubic inch V8 provides plenty of power and light weight, so the car dances around corners without the nose-heavy feeling of a big block. Fully dressed in Cobra regalia, it looks right in the engine bay and offers many OEM parts so service is easy and reliability is excellent. It's backed by a T5 5-speed manual gearbox from a Mustang, which is one of the sweetest-shifting transmissions this side of a Miata and offers an overdrive gear for relaxed cruising. A Mustang donated its 8.8-inch rear end and rear suspension, too, so handling is predictable and secure, and with power steering, this one can be driven every day. The chassis isn't detailed for show, but there are no major issues or leaks, and the 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels wear suitably tall and fat 235/60/15 blackwall radials. Inexpensive, fast fun, this Cobra couldn't be duplicated for the asking price, and you definitely couldn't have it done by this weekend. Call us today and enjoy your new Cobra immediately! This vehicle is located in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom. For more information, please call (817) 764-8000 or toll free (855) 877-2707.

1958 Ford Fairlane ( USD 48995 )

The full-sized Fords like this 1958 Fairlane 500 represent incredible bang for the buck. The Fairlane lives in the shadow of its Chevrolet competition and its "retractable" siblings, although the Fairlane has tidier proportions, all of which make a compelling case for this gorgeous ragtop. Repainted in original code RE2, Torch Red and Colonial White, the car looks spectacular today. The paint is acrylic urethane, which means it'll last practically forever and there's a shine on this car that Ford designers could only dream about. 1958 Fords had styling that many feel is a big improvement over the '57s, with quad headlights becoming standard equipment and that dramatic sweeping trim dividing the two colors. And if it's fins and chrome you're after, you've come to the right place, with a massive front bumper/grille assembly, that gorgeous stainless side trim, and quad taillights out back, all of which make the Ford look like nothing else on the road. Finish quality is quite good and the Ford's forward-canted looks give it the appearance of speed, even when it's standing still, so you'll find it hard to resist on a sunny day. The two-tone red and white vinyl interior was restored when the bodywork was done, and makes a bright '50s fashion statement. The pleated door panels match the seat inserts and use traditional patterns to really take you back in time. Ford embraced the jet age with their dashboard styling, including the arched speedometer and a steering wheel flanked by two groups of three switches on either side. The original AM radio is gone, replaced by a far more functional AM/FM unit in the original location with a remote CD player, and it appears that no OEM components were harmed in the installation. The massive trunk is fully lined with the usual gray mouse fur material, along with a full-sized spare and jack assembly. A fresh white power vinyl top was installed as well, and it retracts easily behind the rear seat and hides under a matching red boot for the ultimate in open-air cruising. This Fairlane also packs Ford's top engine for 1958, the 352 cubic inch "Thunderbird Special" V8. With a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, it moves the luxurious ragtop with effortless ease and a crisp V8 burble from the twin tailpipes. Nicely detailed with plenty of chrome and Ford Blue Paint, the engine bay isn't totally stock but it sure looks good. Key it up and it fires quickly, settling into an even idle that makes you want to ease it down the highway. A 3-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission handles the gear swaps and out back there's an indestructible Ford 9-inch with 2.69 gears that make this a fantastic cross-country cruiser. Sure, it's a little crusty underneath, but it's highly original and quite solid with no issues, so you can drive without worries. And for safety, the braking system has been upgraded to a dual master cylinder and 215/75/14 Coker whitewall radials give it just the right look. Go ahead and price a few '58 Impalas and Ford Retractables, then take another look at this Fairlane. It's A LOT of car for the money. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air ( USD 38995 )

This great-looking 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is the kind of car we all hope to own someday. Combining one of the most popular models of all time with a few thoughtful upgrades, it's the ultimate Saturday night cruiser that looks like 1957 and drives like 2012. Finished in Matador Red paint that has a lovely soft shine, this Bel Air showcases why these cars are eternally popular. The workmanship is very nicely done, and there's every indication that this was a solid, clean car all along. Bodywork is very good, with no ripples or waves in the final product, and all the body panels line up as they should. And while the car is lightly modified underneath, the body and trim was left alone, because, well, you just can't improve this design. Restoring the chrome on a car like this is an expensive proposition, but it appears that these guys stepped up to the plate and did it right, with everything brightly polished to glitter against the smooth red finish. Just about the only tipoff that this isn't a totally stock '57 are the blue dot taillight lenses, but heck, that's a period accessory, too! Contrast is the key to a great 1950s car, and the slick black interior has been heavily upgraded and looks quite modern. The custom front bench is handsome as well as comfortable, and shows virtually no wear since the build was completed, and the back seat has been upholstered to match, giving it a very finished look. Power windows have been hidden inside custom door panels and there's an AM/FM/CD stereo in the center of the dash. The instrument panel has been fully restored, including the strip of machined turned trim that runs from end to end, and it includes a set of auxiliary gauges plus a tach mounted down low and out of sight. Clever tricks include a tilt column that still looks stock, and a smaller-diameter steering wheel that most folks will mistake for an original. Oh, and one more thing: there's fully functional A/C stashed under the dash-cool, huh? The trunk is finished in black carpets with a custom cover for the spare tire. Power comes from a 350 cubic inch crate motor, appropriately dressed in Chevy Orange with polished aluminum valve covers and a chrome air cleaner. It makes all the right V8 sounds and runs beautifully, with a very 1957 combination of performance and reasonable economy. Note that all the accessories are new, including the polished A/C compressor and updated alternator, and there's a big aluminum radiator up front keeping everything cool. Power brakes and power steering were added, along with a dual master cylinder and front discs for safety. It's backed by a beefy TH400 3-speed automatic and the stock rear end. There's a fresh Flowmaster exhaust system and it rolls on a set of 225/75/14 whitewall radials with original style hubcaps, but think of how good a set of wide whitewall radials might look! This '57 is ready to cruise, and thanks to a few well-chosen modifications, is an absolute pleasure to drive. This one is proof that great cars never go out of style. Call today!
