If pickup trucks were as nice as this 1956 GMC coming off the assembly line, they never would have gotten any work done. Quite possibly the finest '56 GMC pickup in existence, this truck has enjoyed a full frame-off restoration to very high standards, with only a few hundred break-in miles clocked since the work was complete. Looking for the best? You've just found it. By 1956 GMC had discovered that style sells, so they gave their pickups plenty of stuff for the motoring public to look at. Sure, it's similar to the Chevys, as you'd expect, but GMC quickly positioned themselves as an upmarket brand, even back in the '50s. As a result, the bodywork was ornate and highly detailed. It has been bolted together with vastly more care than the factory ever managed, and the gorgeous oak bed wears a golden coat of varnish that compliments the light blue paint quite nicely. There's also a ton of chrome on this heavy hauler, and it must have cost a year's worth of mortgage payments to get that grille restored. Bright red callouts for the GMC badge and the '100' emblem in the grille add a dash of color, while the wrap-around rear bumper was intentionally designed to look like it came from a car, not a working-class truck. The spotless blue and white interior is probably someplace you'd be afraid to go with dirty work boots, but this is how they were when this truck was new. The original bench has been expertly reupholstered using correct materials and patterns, and there's still a rubber mat on the floor for easy maintenance. The door panels are still painted to match the body, as is the dashboard, which is as brilliantly detailed as any component on the truck. Even the gauges are framed in matching light blue rings on a brushed stainless panel. The steering wheel shows no signs of age, and its two-tone paint job would look just as at home in a Cadillac as it does here. Radios were still optional in 1956, but this one got an AM unit in the center of the dash, as well as a heater which had finally become standard equipment. Even though the valve covers say GMC, that's a Pontiac 316 cubic inch V8 under the hood, and before you call foul, that is, in fact, original equipment. Heck, they even painted it Chevy Orange, just to blur the lines a little further. But it is beautifully detailed and full of original details such as a generator, oil bath air cleaner, and a correct 2-barel carburetor. Note other details like the GM stampings on the heater hoses and a heavy-duty fan and shroud on the original radiator. The transmission is a HydraMatic 4-speed automatic, which by 1956 had evolved into the world's finest transmission, durable and smooth and making this truck a breeze for anyone to drive. Slide underneath and you'll discover an equally well-detailed chassis that includes a correct reproduction exhaust system, beautifully finished floors, and painted steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings wearing whitewall tires. The amount of time and money that went into this restoration is easily twice the asking price, making owning the best '56 GMC in the world seem like a real bargain. Call today!
