I can't think of another comfortable, full-sized '50s cruiser that looks this good and runs this well for this little money. Look at this '56 Pontiac Star Chief again, now dig the price. There are a lot of '50s cars out there where that number won't even get you fresh chrome on the bumpers, yet here's a complete, running, driving, gorgeous Poncho that can be enjoyed immediately. If this one lasts a week on the showroom floor, I'll be shocked. The '56 Pontiacs were an evolution of the '55s, which is a good thing, because they were record-setting sales years. Traditional styling cues remained, including the distinctive trim along the hood and deck lid, as well as the sweeping two-tone paint job. This nicely preserved Star Chief has never had any major surgery, and the two-tone blue and white paint combination looks completely authentic. It has a lovely, soft gloss that looks straight out of the '50s, and with the continental kit out back, it seems about a mile long. In the same way, and perhaps most importantly, all the chrome is excellent, including the unique Pontiac lighted hood ornament that's simply spectacular-you can see how cool it looks in photos, but imagine the effect at night as you're pulling into your favorite cruising spot! Inside, the seats have been reupholstered in matching blue and white vinyl using a pattern that looks right and remains all-day comfortable. The chrome-laden dashboard is all business, hiding behind that incredibly cool jet-age steering wheel, which is in remarkable condition. Fresh carpets on the floor uses the correct weave and nap, and shows exactly zero wear. The steering wheel is much too nice to be original, and you'll note that little stuff like the courtesy lamps still work, which is always a plus. The nicely finished trunk offers a correct mat as well as a jack assembly. If you need a spare, of course, it's mounted out back where it gets maximum style points. The '56 Pontiacs were the most powerful yet, and the Star Chief got a thumping 316 cubic inch V8 that probably helped launch the horsepower wars. Smooth and torquey, with a Hydramatic transmission that shifts imperceptibly, this Star Chief eases down the road effortlessly with a nice V8 burble from the single exhaust. Rebuilt just 3000 miles ago, it has been nicely finished with correct Pontiac Turquoise paint on the block, and it offers impressive torque off the line and effortless cruising at modern highway speeds. Power steering was still a big deal in 1956, and this one can be guided with just a finger, along with power brakes that are powerful and reassuring. The chassis is solid, being a well-maintained southern car, and with modern tube shocks, it rides and handles extremely well. Newer wide whitewalls have been fitted to the steel wheels, which wear original full wheel covers. This is a fabulous, high-profile way to join the antique car hobby with a stylish and surprisingly fast vintage Pontiac. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
