Tried to find a clean General Motors A-body lately? If they haven't rotted away, they've been converted to some kind of SS clone or a resto-mod with a generic crate motor inside. What you almost never see is a clean, honest, unmolested Chevelle, still packing its original, numbers-matching small-block drivetrain. This is one of those cars where it's obvious that someone loved it from day one. To give you some idea of just how good the paint job is, the original color is code G Ash Gold, but today it is brilliant Matador Red, and there's absolutely no trace of the original hue anywhere on the car-not in the door jambs, not underneath, not even in the trunk. There are virtually zero signs of masking, suggesting that the car was disassembled for the paint job, and the finish itself shows extremely well. All the chrome and trim is original and still in good shape, and details like the parking and taillight lenses are still clear and undamaged. All the original badges were retained instead of being tossed in favor of some repro SS badges, which only reinforces this car's honesty. Inside, that very well may be the original code 794 Parchment interior. It shows some wear, but it's hard to deny the original feel that it gives the car. Flanking a center console, the buckets are in excellent shape and the back seat looks truly excellent. All the original gauges are fully functional, and a set of auxiliary gauges have been stashed under the dash in the usual location. All the glass is quite good, and the only real deviations from stock is an AM/FM stereo head unit feeding a pair of 6x9 speakers on the rear package shelf and a new A/C system with R134a refrigerant inside for reliability and easy service. The trunk is shockingly clean with solid floors, so you know this car has lived a good life somewhere warm-shouldn't we all be so lucky? For a lot of guys, matching-numbers matter, and this car still sports its factory-issued 327. Combined with a TH350 3-speed automatic, it provides great torque, smooth performance, and easy drivability. It has been fortified with an Edelbrock intake, Holley carburetor, and a set of long-tube headers. For visual appeal, there's Chevy Orange paint on the block and tons of chrome, from the air cleaner and valve covers to the alternator and radiator shroud. Underneath, it confirms its originality with solid floors and no issues, along with a great-sounding Flowmaster exhaust system. Wide Corvette Rally wheels with spinners always look right, and these have been fitted with fat 245/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear radials that still have a lot of life left in them. Sure, you could spend twice this much for a big block or some fake SS replica, but once you experience how well this one drives, how tight an original car feels, and get a look at how unbelievably solid this one is, you might think twice. A wonderful cruiser as it sits, or the foundation for something truly remarkable if that's your thing, this Malibu offers a lot of bright red fun for not a lot of cash. Call today!
