In 1952 is a prototype of what would become the MGA much later, presented to Leonard Lord (Director of BMC). The prototype is based on technique of the MG TD and is therefore easy to further develop into production model. Leonard gave no green light for further developments because the Austin-Healey 100 production was started at BMC.

It is decided to develop the MG TD, this was the later MG TF. Eventually reveals found the new TF too old-fashioned to compete with other sports cars from the middle '50-years. A new model is necessity. The prototype is adapted from 1952 and in 1955 the first MGA's shall appear. The MGA is clearly a completely new model that differs from the T-series models.

The first MGA's had a 1489cc (XPEG series) engine coupled to a four speed manual gearbox. These engines deliver 72 HP and the MGA gets thereby a top speed of just under 160 km/h. Later follows the very rare Twin Cam version (recognizable by the badges and the special Central Lock Dunlop RIMS) because of the demand for more power. This engine is complicated and is followed by a normal 1600cc engine (identified with changed city lights/blinkers and taillights). The last MGA's are the MKII models, they had a further upgraded 1600cc motor (1622cc). These are identified by the back reclining grill and the rearlights.

The MGA is built from september 1955 to september 1962. In that period, there are a total of 101.081 MGA's built.

This is one of the first series: a MGA 1500cc and this one has the original steel rims. The MG is completely restored some years ago and is in a stunningly beautiful condition. The color scheme is fantastic and the car is very original. Driving this MG is particularly pleasant and it is immediately clear why the MGA has become such a great success. This MGA is ready to work with you, it is delicious to drive it about beautiful roads...
