The super-clean lines of this 1959 Chevrolet Impala were ground-breaking when they were new, and remain popular with collectors and customizers today. The jet age was in full swing, and the smooth styling of this Impala would lead the way into a new decade, and with just a few tasteful modifications, this is one of the biggest eye-magnets in our showroom today. Finished in gorgeous Tuxedo Black with a red insert on the quarter panels, this is one fabulous-looking car. Even though the saying is old, there's a lot of truth to the fact that if you're going to paint a car black, it needs to be straight, and you could use this one as a mirror to shave your face each morning. 1959 was a banner year for tailfins, including the cool horizontal fins on the Impala, and many enthusiasts prefer the '59 to the flattened look of the '60. Three lights out back were not yet an Impala trademark, but the cat's eye housings and multi-segment lenses are like artwork, and chrome was definitely still in fashion. Fortunately, all the brightwork on this lovely Imp is either re-chromed or fully polished, and you'll delight in details like the wide stainless side trim and bright trim bisecting the deck lid. You'll also note that the crossed-flag emblems with the stylized V underneath signifies the 348 cubic inch V8 under the hood. Is there any better choice than a red interior with a black body? Finished with correct materials and patterns, the red and white interior of this Impala is every bit as stylish and detailed as the body. With a split bench, access to the spacious back seat is easy, and the door panels feature the coolest armrest ever designed, emphasizing Chevy's fascination with the jet age. The dash features a color-matched hood and five individual gauge pods to relay information, while secondary controls are housed in a bright metal strip running along the bottom edge. Interestingly, this Impala features a 4-speed manual transmission, which was definitely a performance choice rather than a cost factor for the original buyer. An under-dash A/C unit has been added and it's unobtrusive enough and is definitely a welcome sight, and the original AM radio remains in place. The massive trunk is spotless, featuring a full-sized spare and reproduction mat. The top engine in 1959 remained the 348 cubic inch V8, and the one in this car is topped by a gorgeous and highly functional Tri-Power setup. The finned Offenhauser aluminum valve covers and air cleaners are a period accessory, and there's an alternator instead of the original generator, but otherwise it's vintage 1959 under the hood. The bright Chevy Orange engine runs superbly, with that distinctive 348 rumble that would later terrorize the streets when it became the mighty 409. The chassis is solid and largely rust-free, offering a dual exhaust system with glasspacks that dump just behind the rear wheels, rebuilt drum brakes, and a set of incredible chrome wheels wearing 235/40/18 front and 255/35/20 rear performance radials.
