Italian title - Authentic 595 SS - Seductive little rocket - For use on the road or track In 1963, wanting to meet the demands of young motorsport enthusiasts, Carlo Abarth launched his Fiat Abarth 595, derived directly from the Fiat 500. The pretty little yoghurt pot took on a new face and was capable of a performance worthy of much higher-powered cars. Conscious of the potential of his 595, Abarth presented the 595 SS in 1964, which was more powerful still, and homologated in the GT class. The Fiat Abarth 595 esse-esse on offer has been part of the current owner's collection for the last ten years. It is a genuine 595 SS, and not an adaptation, as is often the case. It distinguishes itself from the standard Fiat 500 in many ways over and above the badges on the bodywork. It has a panel which covers the sunroof opening on the series model. The interior is unique, with a generous array of special instruments, a small steering wheel and bucket seats. On this example, the wings have been widened to allow room for racing wheels, and the bumpers have been reduced to their simplest form. To make it easier to use the car, a boot lid has been adapted that completely closes the engine compartment, but the sport version of the lid, with rods designed to keep it open, will be delivered with the car. Underneath this lid is a twin-cylinder engine that has been modified by Abarth and has, notably, a twin-bodied carburettor. In this SS version, the 595cc produces more than 30 bhp, and as the car weighs little, it can reach speeds of 130 km/h. A real rocket ! In addition, the car has been mechanically restored, and the engine is set up to make it easy to drive. The Abarth identification is under the bonnet. Attractive, lively and original, this authentic Abarth is capable of tearing through the town as well as competing on the track. Either way, it is a source of guaranteed pleasure !
