Chevrolet Corvette
French title - Rare 283ci V8 version - Superb restoration - The ultimate American sportscar of the 1950s The Chevrolet Corvette came into the world in 1953, powered by a six-cylinder in line "Blue Flame" engine. In 1954, the engine remained unchanged, while a V8 appeared in 1955, but very cars were powered by the latter. From 1956, all cars were equipped with the more powerful V8, and while the chassis remained unchanged, while the body was extensively redesigned. Round headlights surrounding a characteristic grille resembling an impressive jaw made its appearance. Amongst the equipment for the series, there was dual exhaust, bucket seats covered in vinyl, a three-spoked sports steering wheel, carpeting, exterior mirrors and an electric clock. Choice of seven colours was available, including the "Cascade Green" that you see on the car on offer, with white sides. This car was delivered in June 1957 with a beige vinyl interior. This is one of the few equipped with the 283ci V8 developing 270 horsepower and mated to a four-speed gearbox, which was an option at that time. The current owner acquired the car in Germany when it had been completely restored. Indeed, the work has been a very thorough job, with the chassis exposed, complete painting and overhaul of the mechanicals, in short, an impressive work that can rarely be seen even in at the Rétromobile. It is a car that charms everyone at first glance, the kind of car that was the daily transport of stars like Eddy Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bill Haley.
