Citroën SM Injection 2,7L
German registration - Exceptional original condition - Unusual model - Technically excellent with great handling - No reserve During the 1960s, Citroën developed their own way of doing things. So when the company decided to launch a sporty model, it was keen to come up with something new. The SM did this magnificently. The car was clothed in an unconventional body sporting a battery of six front lights, with a futuristic dashboard and a slightly oval-shaped steering wheel. It had a sophisticated hydraulic set-up : there was, of course, the suspension and very efficient braking system found on the DS, but with some subtle changes - for example the variable assisted power steering. On the mechanical side, Citroën turned to Maserati, with whom they had signed an agreement in 1968. The Italian manufacturer proposed a V-shaped six-cylinder 2.7-litre engine that was less crowded and more economical than the V8 of the Ghibli. With twin overhead cam, it produced 170 bhp that powered this extraordinary coupé to over 220 km/h. This was achieved with an unusual level of comfort and a high level of safety for a sports car. Qualities that were valued by those driving the car in earnest, for the SM, with its oil pressure-based suspension, distinguished itself in rallying. The originality of the car remains a fascination today. The SM on offer was bought by the current owner recently, before he knew he would have to sell a large part of his collection. The car is in remarkably original condition, with " as new " camel upholstery. Only the paintwork is new, and it has been re-sprayed to a very high standard. An under-valued car, this SM combines exceptional originality with outstanding road-handling qualities, and a level of comfort worthy of the most luxurious limousine.
