Jaguar 420 G berline
German registration - Two owners only - Superb condition - Exceptional combination of performance and refinement - A symbol of luxury automobile from the 1960s - No reserve Five to 200 km/h in exceptional comfort: this could have been the slogan accompanying the Jaguar Mk X when it was launched in 1961. For this high-end model, William Lyons did not skimp on the technical or the equipment level. Four-wheel independent suspension, disc brakes, variable assist power steering, the Mark X featured the 265bhp engine of the E Type, making it a remarkable mix of high performance and impeccable road behavior. The interior was richly endowed: abundant wood trim, rear shelves with mirrors, seats and door in leather, et al. In 1964, the Mk X received the bigger 4.2 liter engine, offering more torque, and a new automatic transmission that was more efficient. Three years later, the car was renamed 420 G, a nod to its sister the 420. Today this is a rare car, what with just 1,125 produced in LHD form, and with very few surviving. Sold new by Emile Frey, the Jaguar dealer in Switzerland, this 420 G remained for many years in the same hands. Some 15 years ago, the current owner acquired the car from the first owner. Thus this car has been, for over forty years, had just two owners, which is unusual enough to be highlighted. The counter shows 14,943kms but the owner believes that it is actually 114,943kms, as the upholstery and carpets needed a repair, and which was carried out as per the rules of the trade. Trim and rubber, looking as good as new, are original. The perfect mechanical condition reflects very careful maintenance by the Jaguar dealer network. The car is presented in outstanding condition and is probably the most beautiful Jaguar 420 G we have had the opportunity to auction.
