Renault Alpine 1600 S
French title - Superb presentation - Legendary model - Meticulously prepared - Owned by Jean Boussignac since 1989 Success didn't happen by chance. The hundreds of victories clocked up in rallies by the Alpine berlinetta were the result of qualities developed by Jean Rédélé. Compact, sporty and elegant with a Renault engine mated to a five-speed gearbox, here was a sports car that displayed remarkable consistency. The Alpine 1600S on offer was first registered on 30 December 1969, making it one of the first 1600S berlinettas. As the period FFSA technical passport shows, it took part in numerous rallies between 1986 and 1989, including the Ronde Solognote and the Rallye de Touraine. With an engine race-prepared by Fresneau (formerly of Mignotet), the car was fitted with a type 364 gearbox, and given more powerful brakes. It was also fitted with a roll-cage, bucket seats and harnesses. In 1989, Jean Boussignac bought the car from Jacques Pelourde, and launched into a thorough restoration of the bodywork, wiring, paintwork and upholstery, to achieve a superb level of presentation. A large file of invoices, dating back to 1990, accompany this interesting Alpine. In 2007, the type 364 gearbox was completely rebuilt by DMT, at a cost of €6,500, and the same year, for another bill of €6,500, the car was sent to Hayat to have the gearbox fitted, along with work to the suspension and the engine. This Alpine has been lavished with care and attention by its owner for the last 20 years, and offers a fantastic opportunity to compete in historic racing, at the wheel of a successful and thrilling machine.
