Ford Thunderbird
English registration - The most sought after of the T-Birds - Two careful owners - With many options In 1953, Chevrolet was the first to rush into the segment of grand touring sports cars with the Corvette. A year later, exactly on the 20th of February 1954, at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford responded with an elegant cabriolet called the "Thunderbird". Although heavier, but much more comfortable than its rival from Chevrolet, the car was powered by a V8 engine that was still lacking in the Corvette, which till 1955 was equipped with a modest six-cylinder. The T-Bird 56 were the first Ford featuring 12 Volt electrical and are the most popular, with its oval window in the hardtop, its "continental kit" standard spare wheel in a vertical position behind the trunk giving the latter more capacity. The car shown is a 1956 T-Bird, the most sought after. According to Dearborn assembly, the No. serial code indicates that this car is equipped with the 312 V8 cubic inch motor of 225bhp, which gives the car enough performance coupled with a very desirable automatic transmission, the car is equipped with power steering, power brakes and air conditioning which was unusual then. The body is painted in its original colour and is in extremely healthy state. Off-white, top in white, with leather seats in original green and white with a beautiful patina, this car is also equipped with a white hardtop and tinted windows. It has remained in the hands of the same owner 1997 in Southern California and the latter sold it to an Italian friend, thus it is a second hand car. This T-bird figured in an extremely well preserved cover of a T-Bird magazine and is eligible for the 1000 Miglia. It is registered in England with a V5 with a recent MOT.
