Moto Guzzi 500 C2V
Italian registration Engine # 190868 - Rare customer competition version - In superb condition - Special preparation Official racing machine, the Moto Guzzi C2V was also marketed to privateers. Introduced in 1923, this 500 single-cylinder OHV remained in production till 1928, with a total of 486 examples made. According to a paper prepared by Moto Guzzi, the C2V we present was produced in October 1928 and was delivered to its first owner in Lugano on the 12th of December the same year. It was purchased by its current owner from a Moto Guzzi dealer who had it completely restored. The owner highlights some very particular details of this machine. It has the bottom frame reinforcement sheet welded directly on the two down the tubes at the T fork. In general, the C2V marketed these reinforcements bolted, not welded. This type of frame, very sturdy, was used on the 500 four-valver, known as the C4V. Another special feature is of the oil tank: it has been moved and the fuel tank has a capacity that is normally so for dual tanks, suggesting that the desire to improve lubrication, specifically for long races. This engine is dry sumped. Finally, a last element of interest, the cylinder head is made of bronze, which was exclusively the prerogative of the official bikes and permitted the use of larger diameter valves. Red (color reserved for factory bikes, the others sold to outsiders were olive green), this bike comes in an excellent condition and has a lighthouse S.A.M. Among the 486 production examples, it is one of the very few with a bronze head. This bike is impressive, both in its technical aesthetics typical of the brand with the eagle, with its special flywheel-shape and fans will give it the attention it deserves.
