Jawa 350 V4 Type 673
Racing motorcycle Engine n° L4-1RH - One owner for the last 25 years - Fantastic engine - Exceptional original condition - One of the most important racing bikes of its era During the 1967 to 1970 seasons, the Jawa 350 Grand Prix was one of the most outstanding machines on the grid, capable of matching the MV3 and Yamaha. However, if suffered from a chronic lack of reliability that prevented it from finishing Grand Prix, even when it had qualified well. Despite great talent, the Czech engineers, led by Zdenek Tichy, struggled with the quality of the materials at their disposal. From 1969, however, the problems appear to have been resolved and this impressive machine achieved some honourable results ridden by Silvio Grassetti. It was a sophisticated bike for its time, with a 350 cc V4 2-stroke engine, derived from coupling two 125cc engines. It had four crankshafts, a rotary distributor and four carburettors, and produced 80 bhp at 13,200 rpm with a deafening roar. The Jawa Type 673 Grand Prix on offer was probably one of a few factory examples produced by Jawa to compete in the 350cc category in period. It was bought in 1991 by the current owner from Michelangelo Pochettino. The latter was closely linked to Jawa, with a career in Motocross on these machines in the 1970s and 1980s. He became the importer Jawa-CZ in Italy. Our machine comes with a certificate of sale (lettera de Ordinazione) from Michelangelo Pochettino, dated 25 July 1991, for the sum of 21 million lira. According to the owner, it is possible that this bike was ridden by Silvio Grassetti in period, as it has Dell'Orto carburettors, in place of Amals. Another particular feature of this machine, reflecting its originality, is the large number of original parts: the brakes, fork, elements of the steering and controls are all magnesium. It is equipped with the original fairing and took part in the historic motorcycle event at Misano in June 1998. Machines of this calibre rarely come onto the market, making this an exceptional opportunity to acquire one of the most incredible racing bikes of its time. Once sympathetically restored, it would be able to rev its engine once more on demonstration laps, and draw a crowd of enthusiasts, thrilled to hear this historic bike come back to life.
