This 1969 Chevelle SS is bound to attract a lot of potential suitors thanks to its awesome combination of handsome good looks, a big block under the hood, and deeply sculpted buckets that are every bit as comfortable as they look. Correctly refinished in code 52 Garnet Red with a black tape stripe, this SS certainly looks the part of one of the era's most potent street cars. The body and paint have been restored, and it's clear that someone cared about making it right. There were no major deviations from stock during the rebuild, which means the original flat hood remains instead of a ubiquitous cowl induction piece. Correct SS396 badges are in place, and I, for one, like the slightly lower-profile look of the '69s, which tend not to advertise the size of their hammers quite as loudly as the later models. Both front and rear bumpers are in excellent condition, the rubber is new throughout, and all the glass is either nicely preserved or fresh. Inside it's the same story, although those modern buckets make a big difference in comfort. While you sit ON the originals, you sit IN these, and that means that you can spend more time focusing on the road and less time trying to hold yourself in place. The center console and horseshoe shifter were restored and the rear seat wears a new seat cover, tying it all together quite nicely. Gauges are crisp and bright, with the usual accessory instruments hanging under the dash and an AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the center. While an automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes might suggest luxury car, cracking the throttle erases any thoughts of leisurely acceleration and mushy suspensions. Correct SS door panels, a stock steering wheel, and newer black carpets reinforce the stock look despite the modern buckets, and you can tell the builder had his priorities straight. It's nice, but the real show is under the hood. That engine is a built 396 that has been built for combat and dressed in a proper coat of Chevy Orange. Chrome valve covers and a bright chrome air cleaner were standard issue on big block SS models in 1969, and it sports decals suggesting that it's a L34 350 horsepower model, which also included an upgraded cam, bigger carburetor, and that open-element air cleaner. An upgraded HEI ignition system lights the fires even at redline, and the oversized plug wires wear protective boots to shield them from the long-tube headers. The TH350 3-speed automatic was built with performance in mind and feeds a 12-bolt rear end full of 3.73 gears on a Posi limited slip. And while you're under there, also note the Flowmaster exhaust ultra-clean floors, new gas tank, and freshly balanced driveshaft, so it cruises effortlessly. And yeah, maybe the suspension's been lowered a bit to give it a predatory stance. Classic 15-inch Rally wheels are surrounded by staggered 215/70/15 front and fat 275/60/15 rear white-letter radials. This '69 Chevelle represents the rare opportunity to own a gorgeous car you can drive without worries, and with all that performance under the hood, there won't be many who can keep up. Call today!
