In 1963 the first 4-door Maserati was introduced. This fine luxury saloon car was energised by nothing less than a detuned LeMans engine, which was derived from the legendary Maserati 450S, who was the most powerful competitor in the late 50ies. The Quattroporte was built for a special clientele who could afford a expensive and handcrafted 4-door car combined uncompromised power with supreme luxury. The Quattroporte I was built until 1970. Maserati left the Limousine strategy and concentrated more on high speed coupés such as Ghibli (66-73), Indy (69-74), Merak (72-83), Khamsin (73-81) and Kyalami (76-83). The Quattroporte returned in 1978 in a form of a discreetly angular and broad-shouldered saloon based on a stretched Kyalami chassis. Again the glory of this Quattroporte was its luxury interior, which set new standards of sumptuous leather-clad luxury. In the Biturbo era under Alejandro de Tomaso a new Quattroporte was designed by Gandini, a handsome and aerodynamic looking Quattroporte with a V6- (novum) and a V8-engine. However quality problems in that time limited the success of the Quattroporte and Maserati risked to ruin their high quality sports car reputation. This changed with the new Quattroporte V, introduced 2003 at Frankfurt Motor Show. The presented car looked exciting and athletic without losing its sportive character. The new Quattroporte was voted “most beautiful car” in the international press three years in a row. GQ magazine nominated the Quattroporte “The world’s sexiest car” in 2004. The dry sump 4.2 litre V8 derived from the F1 technology of Ferrari, which was first introduced in the F40. The Quattroporte sounds fabulous, better than a Ferrari and has an agility that only few cars could compete. The Quattroporte V is the most beautiful and the most powerful 4-seater of its time!

Produced in 2007 this particular Quattroporte is the last in its original design before the face lift and it is fitted with the fully automatic transmission replacing the so called Duo-Select transmission, developed from the Ferrari-based Cambiocorsa.
