RM Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction house, lifts the gavel on the distinguished Don Davis Collection, April 27, 2013 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The result of many decades of dedicated acquisition by lifelong enthusiast and successful businessman Don Davis, the single-day sale will see more than 50 prized automobiles from Davis’ personal collection cross the auction podium, “without reserve”. Representing the best of the very best, this “Collector’s Collection” spans a broad variety of marques and eras with a strong emphasis on American horsepower and European sports and GT cars.
Sale highlights include an outstanding pair of 289 Cobras, including a well-equipped 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra presented in striking red on black and a 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra, an original promotional car showing less than 40,000 actual miles. Also on offer, a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Big Tank Coupe, one of only 66 built with the 33-gallon racing fuel tank; an Amelia Island ‘Best of Show’ winning 1958 Dual-Ghia Convertible, formerly owned by legendary entertainer Hoagy Carmichael; and a historically significant 1941 Chrysler Newport Dual Cowl Phaeton, the actual pace car of the 1941 Indianapolis 500 race and subsequently owned and driven by Walter P. Chrysler, Jr.
Admission to the auction preview on April 26 is available by purchasing an official auction catalog for $80 US which admits two people. Admission to the auction is limited to registered bidders and qualified media only.
