Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder, January 16th-20th, 2013 at Russo and Steele's 13th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction. Please contact us for more information. This 1968 Chevelle SS 396 features the original matching numbers L35 325 horsepower big block engine, along with an M-21 4-speed manual transmission, 12 bolt 3.55 geared positraction rear end, power steering and brakes, bucket seats and center console. It has the factory 7000 rpm scroll tach, factory rallye gauges, factory wood steering wheel, black vinyl top and factory nose stripes. It also has the factory "dog dish" or poverty hub caps, factory steelies shod with reproduction F 70 redlines. This Chevelle has had a recent frame-off restoration, and has the factory Owner's Manual, warranty booklet, and Protect-O-Plate. Refinished in the original factory Tripoli Turquoiese (KK code), black vinyl top (2 code/BB), black SS stripes, black bucket seat interior. This is the last year of the 138 VIN designated SS 396's, and this car had a complete frame-off restoration less than 3 years ago. Originally sold from a San Francisco Chevrolet dealer, this car spent most of its life on the West Coast. This SS has the correctly coded Rochester Quadrajet carb, cast iron intake manifold, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and correct chrome air cleaner assembly. All hoses and clamps are factory correct GM parts, even the plug wires are Packard Electric factory replicas, along with the Delco tar top battery. The numbers matching motor was rebuilt to 100% factory specs and fires quickly and settles into a nice, lopey idele with a deep aggressive exhaust note from the correct chrome exhaust tips! This car pulls hard through the rev range, and easily lays waste to the bias ply reproduction rubber. The 4-speed (correct, but no-matching #'s) shifts perfectly through the gears to the original 12-bolt housing. Power steering and brakes (finned cast drums) help keep everything safely on the road. The interior is factory-correct, save for the correct appearing Hurst shifter that replaced the original Muncie linkage, is beautiful and tear free. The laser straight original California body had no dents, waves, or dings. This car still has all its original quarters, floor, and trunk pans, and the factory panel fit is nearly perfect! The correct KK-code Tripoli Turquoise was sprayed with the standard base/clear acrylic urethane and then color sanded and buffed to a smooth glossy finish. The bumpers were show chromed (triple dipped), and the brightwork and stainless trim were highly polished for that showroom look. All new weather stripping complements great glass that operates smoothly up and down. The trunk seal and window whiskers are also new. The underside of the chasssis has been completed in the correct GM chassis black paint. This is a true investment-grade Chevelle-check the assembly tags on the front spring/sway bar, along with the factory-detailed engine compartment, and flawless interior, paint, and stance. This Chevelle also drives as fantastic as it looks!
