With its increased ground clearance, more positive rear axle location and enhanced interior the so-called Phase 2 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III introduced in May of 1964 became the best and most user-friendly of all the six-cylinder "Big Healeys". The Phase 2 completed Austin-Healey's evolution from the elemental sports car that was the 4-cylinder BN1 into a luxurious, comfortable convertible suited for high speed, long distance driving in the grand touring manner. This late example from the last year of Big Healey production was restored to excellent standards and drives extremely well. It is finished in Healey Blue with Blue upholstery piped in gold and matching dark blue top and boot cover. A Moto-Lita style woodrim steering wheel complements the wood instrument panel and dashboard. The engine compartment is upgraded with a polished aluminum valve cover, an alternator and oil filter and is carefully and accurately detailed. The exterior features chrome wire wheels with blackwall tires. This is a very satisfying example of Austin-Healey's ultimate six-cylinder sports car. The cosmetics are gorgeous, the seats show almost no sign of wear or use and it is "on the button" and runs and drives well, a car for an experienced collector to use and enjoy with pride and satisfaction.
