About this Car:
Rare, purposeful, and ferociously quick, Porsche’s stunning mid-engined Carrera GT was introduced at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show. Derived from the 911 GT1 and LMP1-98 prototype racing programs, the Carrera GT moved Porsche firmly to the head of the supercar class. Once Porsche brought its wildly successful Cayenne SUV to market, it reassigned its engineers to the Carrera GT project, and the result was stunning. The factory began taking orders that autumn; deliveries began the following year. While 1,500 examples were planned, only 1,270 were actually built and sold with an MSRP of $448,000. About half of those cars went to the US market, and more than a few were tucked away into private collections.
Each car possessed a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis and subframe; pushrod-actuated front and rear suspension; carbon-ceramic (PCCB), cross-drilled ventilated disc brakes; and a stunning, lightweight 5.7-liter V-10 engine that had its genesis in Porsche’s Footwork-Arrows F1 program of 1991–1996. This four-valves-per- cylinder, dry sumped, fuel-injected powerplant produced a conservative 612hp at 8,000rpm, and 435 lbs./ft of torque at 5,750 rpm, all delivered through a small-diameter, twin-plate ceramic clutch to a six-speed manual transaxle. Center lock-forged magnesium alloy wheels–with a diameter of 19" in front and 20" in the rear–reduced unsprung weight and included a tire pressure monitoring system. Using its electronic traction control, the Carrera GT can accelerate to 60 mph from a stand still in just 3.6 seconds and achieve a maximum speed in excess of 200 mph; a retractable rear spoiler adds stability at higher speeds. Two removable composite roof panels can be stored under the front trunk lid, turning the Carrera GT into a delightful open-air tourer. Air buffeting is all but eliminated with a glass panel that fits between the seats. The luxurious and highly functional interior includes all the usual amenities, plus an advanced airbag system.
This Carrera GT, numbered 0852, was completed at the Porsche factory in June 2005 and was finished in GT Silver Metallic with dark gray leather interior. In July 2006, the GT was sold to its first owner, a resident of Laguna Beach, California. In September 2006, the owner had Pacific Porsche of Torrance, California, install a factory-sanctioned kit that raised the GT’s ride height by approximately 10 mm. This kit greatly reduced the probability of bottoming the vehicle out when negotiating various driveway ramps and speed bumps.
After being owned for just over a year and with less than 1,000 miles on the odometer, the Carrera GT was purchased by a prominent Porsche collector in Southern California and remained in his care until January 2012, when it was acquired by the consignor. Not long after his purchase, at a cost of nearly $15,000, the Carrera was sent to Roman Custom Upholstery of Thousand Oaks, California, to receive a very special interior upgrade. The seat center sections, dash, and console leather panels were changed to an elegant cognac shade. Additionally, the seats are finished with a sporting diamond stitch pattern that greatly enhances the look of the interior and perfectly complements the overall design of the interior space.
At the time of cataloguing, the Carrera GT had covered just 3,437 miles in the seven years since it was first driven. Supplied with a CARFAX report, its original window sticker, manuals, and hardtop panels, this Carrera has received consistent, professional care since new.
