1979 Porsche 911SC to RS Specification ( GBP 34000 )

There is little doubt that the early RS spec'd 911 from the 1970's offered the most pure driving experience. Some enjoyed the spartan interior coupled with a powerful, albeit tail-happy, rear end and the simple yet purposefully designed exterior. Sadly, however, the costs involved in acquiring one of these increasingly rare examples precludes many of us from attaining motoring nirvana and so alternatives are sought. You could, of course, plump for an English version of a two-seater sportscar from that era such as various Ferraris, an Aston Martin V8 or a Mustang - however no-one really offers the sort of bang for your buck that the 911RS does.

Quite naturally, the other route for enthusiasts was to afford Porsche the greatest form of flattery and copy the layout from a pre-existing Stuttgart floorpan. This was, and still is, a hugely popular route to RS ownership and has been done with varying degrees of thoroughness. The vehicle available today is probably one of the most dedicated tributes to this great car and has been undertaken with an almost slavish attention to detail. The vendor himself declared that he spent far more than he planned to in order to achieve the effect detailed here.

The donor vehicle car was originally a 1979 911SC with 90,000 miles recorded and a full service history; certainly a good starting point. During the last 12 months, it has undergone a complete ground-up restoration with the engine and gearbox, glass and interior out. Indeed, it was stripped back to just a shell, rebuilt, stone chip protected and painted the correct Grand Prix white throughout. All components were inspected, refurbished and/or replaced where necessary. The exterior has been backdated using genuine steel wings converted with a lightweight long bonnet, lightweight front and rear RS bumpers and finished with a ducktail in Grand Prix white and Mexico blue decals. It also benefits from a complete full nut and bolt engine rebuild from bare crankcases using genuine parts and finished with a full stainless steel exhaust system. The 915 five speed transmission has been fully stripped, overhauled and rebuilt with new genuine parts (as necessary) along with, as you would expect, a new clutch. The brakes have been completely overhauled with four genuine new period calipers and Goodridge stainless steel brake-lines throughout. The wheels fitted are genuine Fuchs lightweight alloys measuring 8 x 15 for the front and 9 x 15 for the rear.

The interior has been re-trimmed with a lightweight RS carpet set and new RS seats finished off with lightweight door cards and a period Momo Prototipo steering wheel; all works untaken by a fully qualified Porsche dealer trained technician.

The only real difference between this and the real thing is the V5C...
