The first generation Range Rover was produced between 1970 and 1996. The original car was not designed as a luxury-type 4x4; while certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had fairly basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards designed to be washed down with a hose. Features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth/leather seats, and wooden interior trim were fitted later. The Range Rover was a body-on-frame design with a box section ladder type chassis similar to contemporary Land Rovers. The Range Rover utilised coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes and was originally powered by the Rover V8 engine. The limited edition Range Rover CSK is named after Charles Spencer King, the man who designed the original two-door Range Rover over 40 years ago with production limited to just 200 units, each car having an individually numbered plaque on the radio panel confirming its exclusivity.
This stunning Range Rover CSK has recently been owned by Lord Rothschild and has benefitted immensely from some significant investment carried out by Vantagefield International in Hertfordshire. A history file accompanies the car containing most of the previous MoT certificates, together with invoices for work carried out throughout its life. In 2009, Vantagefield undertook a 'John Eagles' engine upgrade at a cost of over £8,000, significant coachwork repairs due to corrosion and a full respray in the original Beluga Black. New interior trim was also fitted and the seats were re-trimmed in leather with alcantara inserts. The dashboard has also been trimmed in alcantara and the wood finished in piano black. The overall cost of the restoration was £38,885.52 resulting in, what must surely be, one of the finest CSK's available today. Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 7th January 2014, this Range Rover is incredible value given the estimate.
