1965 Shelby Cobra ( USD 28995 )

We see a lot of Cobra replicas and the bottom line is always the same: why waste time building one when you can own this one right now? With a 302, five gears in the transmission, and that slick Hertz paint scheme, there's a lot to like here, all for a very affordable price. The kit is from Classic Roadsters LTD, who have been building Cobras almost as long as Carroll Shelby himself. They might have altered the proportions a bit, but there's no mistaking this slick snake and the longer cockpit makes for a far more user-friendly machine. Finish quality is quite good, and for a black 'glass Cobra that doesn't cost $75,000, it looks phenomenal. They took it easy on the addons, so it has a slick, purposeful look that lets the shape do all the talking, and the gold stripes offer a retro touch that Ford fans will love. You'll never get tired of the view over the curvaceous hood and the stereo sound of those satin black side pipes that add to the industrial look. It only shows about 4300 miles since it was built, so everything remains in excellent condition, and it's quite obvious that someone loved this one. The low-back buckets look very much like those in an original Cobra and form the foundation of a very driver-oriented interior. They're brand new and couldn't have been cheap, but they add a great deal to the interior, which captures the feel of the original. A full array of gauges are stacked in the flat-faced dash, and the fat Momo steering wheel transmits everything the front wheels are doing directly to your cerebellum. And you can just forget about Cobras being uncivilized brutes, because this one offers A/C and a great-sounding AM/FM/cassette stereo system that you probably won't use anyway-you'll be too busy blipping the throttle on downshifts and listening to the exhaust cackling away just a few inches below your left ear. Carpets and wind wings help add to the civilized feel, so you can cruise long distances without feeling like you spent 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. A carbureted 302 cubic inch V8 provides plenty of power and light weight, so the car dances around corners without the nose-heavy feeling of a big block. Fully dressed in Cobra regalia, it looks right in the engine bay and offers many OEM parts so service is easy and reliability is excellent. It's backed by a T5 5-speed manual gearbox from a Mustang, which is one of the sweetest-shifting transmissions this side of a Miata and offers an overdrive gear for relaxed cruising. A Mustang donated its 8.8-inch rear end and rear suspension, too, so handling is predictable and secure, and with power steering, this one can be driven every day. The chassis isn't detailed for show, but there are no major issues or leaks, and the 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels wear suitably tall and fat 235/60/15 blackwall radials. Inexpensive, fast fun, this Cobra couldn't be duplicated for the asking price, and you definitely couldn't have it done by this weekend. Call us today and enjoy your new Cobra immediately!
