They were given the same engine as the 911S with wider rear tires and a 'ducktail' rear spoiler. Distinguishing them form other 911s, distinctive Carrera lettering on the lower body-sides was a prominent and easily identifiable display. The Carrera Targa presented here is considered the most desirable and best performing model in the standard 1974 U.S. Porsche lineup. Finished in Guards (India) Red paintwork over Black leatherette on wide Fuchs wheels equipped with optional Targa top, rear spoiler, tinted glass, Pirelli Tires and originally purchased by a Dr. Elliott of Moline, Illinois from Rexroat Porsche Audi, Inc. In the years following, the succeeding stewards have been careful to meticulously document the Carrera's servicing and ownership history, as well as regularly maintain the vehicle. Only 246 examples of the Carrera targa were produced in 1974 and this particular example shows in great overall condition as a driver, wearing proper livery throughout with good paint, rubbers, and an interior equally as nice and well-maintained. All glass is original to the car; accessories include air conditioning with modern R134A refrigerant and compressor, Hella fog lamps, Alpine stereo, protective front bra and car cover. The electronics, lights, and all other instrumentation work as they should. Gaps are even and the underside is solid and lacks any signs of corrosion. In conjunction with its Super engine, the 1974 Carrera is the epitome of serious Stuttgart performance cloaked in trendsetting Porsche design. The motor runs very well and shifting is tight through all gears and the four-wheel disc brakes grab as intended. Recent services include a flush of the fluids and new plugs as regularly scheduled. Included with the 911 is the original matching spare assembly, tool roll, rare Webster air compressor, black and red keys in fob, Owner's Manual, Emissions booklet in pouch, 1981-2012 maintenance journal, parts receipts and service invoices from 1984-2012! Classic 911s have become highly collectable investments with a large worldwide following of enthusiasts. The Carrera Targa makes a great entry into the club and exemplifies what remains perhaps one of the most drivable and readily enjoyable sports cars.
