You have to hand it to Chevy, they really were at the top of their game when this 1972 El Camino was built. Where else could you go to get a car that could be outfitted as anything from a bare-bones workhorse to a sophisticated gentleman's express such as this lovely green example? Recently out of long-term storage and comprehensively reconditioned, this El Camino delivers big. Sequoia Green is the color, and it looks fantastic on the El Camino's trim bodywork, especially when paired with the light green vinyl roof. Maybe it spent a previous life working on a ranch somewhere, but since the bodywork was done, it's led a very easy life. The paint is older but still shows well, and the shine it wears it a testament to the quality materials that were used when it was restored. A cowl induction hood was added, probably at the same time, but they took it easy and simply painted it to match the body and didn't feel the need to add SS stripes. Other dress-up items include bed rails and a light green tonneau cover, which hides a nicely preserved bed with a durable and practical bedliner. Chrome is shiny, the grille is the original piece not a faux SS, and the tailgate shows none of the usual bumps and bruises you'd expect. The interior is code 732, which is "Antique Light Covert Elk covered cloth." Yeah, I don't know that that means, either, but it sure looks good in the dark green El Camino. It's probably closer to tan than to white or even Parchment, and it was new when the paint was refinished a few years ago. That includes door panels, contrasting carpets, and seat covers, all of which are still in great shape. The original instrument panel handles the basics, with more details being filled in by the auxiliary gauges mounted under the dash, and thanks to a column shifter, you can squeeze three abreast in a pinch. Factory A/C is always welcome as is the factory AM/FM radio, neither of which you'd find in lesser El Caminos destined for work duty. Numbers guys will be pleased to learn that this El Camino is also numbers-matching, sporting its original 350 cubic inch V8 and TH350 3-speed automatic gearbox. The engine itself got a once-over with a coat of Chevy Orange and the air cleaner looks almost new sitting on top, so the engine bay looks correct. A new dual reservoir master cylinder has been recently installed, and power steering and brakes were standard equipment on the El Camino so it's easy to handle with a full load out back. Underneath, it's quite original and a bit scaly, but there's no structural rust, no problems in the floors or rockers, and a brand new dual exhaust system gives it an authentic voice. Handsome 14-inch SS wheels probably aren't original but they look awesome with fat 225/70/14 BFG radials wrapped around them. If a more refined look is more your speed, this El Camino has all the right ingredients. With a great all-of-a-piece look, it's just right to enjoy without worries, and maybe you'll even put it to work now and then. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom.
