Code-named 'Goshawk', several experimental chassis had shown
most promising results when severe tests of the first 'baby'
Rolls-Royce had been executed. The Rolls-Royce 20hp is easily
recognizable by its horizontally arranged radiator shutters (only
the last series sported vertical shutters). With a shorter
wheelbase and a more economical engine it proved an ideal addition
to Rolls-Royce's range as a second model alongside the Silver
Ghost. Its lighter weight and a reduced turning circle gave the
20hp fine handling.
Originally supplied to Mr. C. Chamberlain, its first English owner, to his residence in Switzerland, this elegant example is reputed to have been on the Rolls-Royce stand at the 1926 Geneva Motor Show. It was then repatriated to the UK in 1931. Little is known between then and the early 1970's when the body was refurbished in the 1970's by Ron Poole, the ex- Rolls-Royce coachbuilder. Finished in its original yellow coachwork with contrasting black wings and still sporting its original 1920's coachwork, this spritely open tourer has an interior trimmed in buttoned-back black leather with red carpets. A new roof frame and black hood has also recently been fitted. Used regularly, it is reported by the vendor as driving very well and starting on the button. Currently supplied with an MoT test certificate valid until May 2013, the pleasure of piloting the pre-war Rolls-Royce should always be a treasured memory and now it is available in its original elegant coachwork.
