Collector cars are about dreams, and when you're very lucky, sometimes your dreams come true. Take this 1967 Mustang, which has been expertly modified to create one man's vision of the ultimate GT500E Eleanor convertible. With Boss 302 power, a 5-speed, and drop-dead good looks, there's nothing this Mustang doesn't do superbly, from blasting down a canyon road to dropping jaws at a show. Starting with a totally rust-free California car, it was stripped to a bare steel shell and rebuilt from the molecular level on up. Select Shelby and Eleanor fiberglass pieces were grafted on, creating that iconic front end with PIAA driving lights and the Shelby-style ducktail with Thunderbird sequential taillights. In between there are side exhausts and enough scoops to force-feed a jet engine. Then it was all covered in Aston Martin Slate Blue, a subtle, elegant color that plays extremely well against the aggressive bodywork. Finish quality is what you'd expect of a cost-no-object build in a pro shop, and you'll probably find that you can spend hours looking this car over and not see all the tricks. There are no badges, further enhancing the subtle-yet-wild look, but I don't think anyone will mistake this for anything but a predator. The interior is a cool mix of original Mustang bits and full-on custom pieces. The buckets are from a 2006 GTO, reupholstered in dark blue leather to match the door panels. The car's original Acapulco Blue was complimented by a 2-tone blue interior, but this resto-mod inverts the patterns to make the dark blue the dominant theme. New blue carpets, a custom center console, and a fabricated instrument panel full of Auto Meter Phantom gauges offer a nod to the past but deliver 21st century looks and performance. The only stereo is provided by the exhaust, but I think once you've heard this beast howling at full throttle, you won't be wondering about the Top-40 anymore. An expertly made black canvas top with correct 2-piece rear window has been fitted, heightening the sophistication, and it stows under a blue boot. The trunk carries an Optima battery and a bottle of nitrous, but it's never been fired. The engine is a 1970-vintage Boss 302 with 4-bolt mains. The list of equipment inside is lengthy, so it's best to give us a call for the full rundown, but the highlights are 11:1 Mahle pistons, a stock Boss crank, a Comp Cams valvetrain, and a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads. An Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake and 4-barrel supply the fuel, while a custom exhaust system with Flowmasters and turndowns just ahead of the rear axle handle the fumes. It grunted out 385 horsepower and 395 pounds of torque at the rear wheels, and that's without the nitrous. It's all stashed under a custom Eleanor GT500E air cleaner and cooled by a giant aluminum radiator. A Tremec 5-speed manual hands the torque to a narrowed 9-inch with 3.55 gears inside, and it rides on a set of Konis all around. Gorgeous 17-inch wheels have been fitted with 225/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear BFGoodrich rubber. With full documentation on the build (which cost over $90,000), this incredible Mustang is ready to rock. All you have to do is call and we'll give you all the details!
