Original 1976 Porsche 914 2.0 Targa - Perhaps the best in the world!
A car is only original ONE time. You are looking at one of, if the THE best examples of a 1976 Porsche 914 2.0 Liter Targa. (The previous owner over 20 years ago had door dings and scratches repaired by the best Porsche 356 restoration shop in the Midwest. This made sense rather than to molest a car by a total repaint that had been so well cared for. Again original only comes once - and to tear this car down would have not made sense. The rest of the car is original and you will not be able to tell the original from the repainted panels.) ZERO rust!!
By the late 1960s, both Volkswagen and Porsche were in need of new models; Porsche was looking for a replacement for their entry-level 912, and Volkswagen wanted a new range-topping sports coupe to replace the Karmann Ghia. At the time, the majority of Volkswagen's developmental work was handled by Porsche, part of a setup that dated back to Porsche's founding; Volkswagen needed to contract out one last project to Porsche to fulfill the contract, and decided to make this that project. Ferdinand Piëch, (yes THAT Ferdinand Piëch, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche) who was in charge of research and development at Porsche, was put in charge of the 914 project. This car is in an important part of Porsche and Volkswagen history.
As you will see by the pictures, this one is spotless. It belonged to the President of the Porsche Club and it was treated like a family member. It runs perfectly, drives perfectly - it is like winding the clock back 37 years. As you know, the top on this car can be removed in about one minute by one person, easily, making an open air drive a breeze.
The car has been featured in magazines and catalogs that feature the Porsche 914. You will a thick file of service records with the car, reassuring you that it was well maintained. It also comes with complete service manuals and spares. There is a box with distributor, wipers, filters, etc. You'll also notice the original drivers seat. In the pictures of the car it shows a sport seat which will also be included. There is a nice middle armrest included as well as stock springs and a trunk luggage rack.
