Dino 246 GTS
Italian registration - Highly original - two registered long-term owners from new! This particular Dino 246 GTS has chassis number 06678 and was commissioned originally in the desirable colour combination of "Nuovo Giallo Fly 20-Y-490" ("new fly yellow") with black vinyl interior "nero 161", being the 558th example out of a total production of 1.282 Dino 246 GTS manufactured between 1972 and 1974. Chassis number 06678 left the Factory in Maranello as a European version without any additional options. The car was completed on June 14, 1973 and supplied as a new car to Dr. Gastone Crepaldi's legendary M. G. Crepaldi Automobili S.a.S. of Milano, then Ferrari's largest authorised dealership in Italy. On July 20, 1973, Crepaldi sold the yellow Dino to its first owner, Dr. Giuseppe Cardile, a psychologist born on May 4, 1938 in Messina on Sicily, but resident in Bergamo in Lombardia. Dr. Cardile paid 6.100.000 Lire for the car and had it registered the same day on a Bergamo plate. Dr. Cardile shortly after had his Dino upgraded to power windows, a very modern and thus both fashionable and prestigious option back in those days. Dr. Cardile enjoyed his Dino 246 GTS for 17 years - such an exceptional long-term ownership was very rare among Dino owners in the period! A stamp in the original warranty card indicates that he had his little Ferrari serviced by Crepaldi, the stamp dating from July 4, 1974. Except from the period power windows, the doctor from Bergamo kept his Dino in completely original and unaltered condition. In the late 1980s, following the death of Enzo Ferrari in August of 1988, the values of both historical and modern Ferrari automobiles climbed to insane levels. In the tempting environment of this so-called "Ferrari price bubble", 06678's original owner could no longer resist selling it: On December 11, 1990, Dr. Giuseppe Cardile sold his beloved car through the used car dealer Giorgio Ortolan of Megliadino San Vitale near Padova to its second owner, Mrs. Maria Elena Mac Neil of Lucca. Despite of having been born in Trieste in Italy in 1951, Mrs. Mac Neil was a British citizen, married to an Italian entrepreneur in the building industry. Although 06678 had now found a new home in beautiful Tuscany, 06678 retained its original Bergamo plate. Now being part of the couple's collection of no less than 15 Ferrari automobiles, including another Dino 246 GT, a 275 GTB/2 Shortnose and a 365 GTB/4 Daytona, among others, 06678 was reportedly subject to a bare metal repaint in its original colour and to a substantial engine overhaul in the early to mid-1990s. Since then, the Dino has seen little, but regular use and thus it seems possible that the currently indicated mileage of 55.500 kilometres could be original. In 2012, Mrs. Mac Neil sadly passed away, and following her untimely death, her husband, who had inherited the car, decided to part from his entire Ferrari collection, this particular Dino 246 GTS being the last Ferrari in his stable. Currently being one of the most sought-after road going Ferrari models, this Dino 246 GTS in highly original condition is offered for purchase for the first time after more than 22 years. It comes with a leather pouch which includes the original warranty card, a spare parts catalogue and a handbook, with a tool roll and with one new copy of the ultimate book on the V6 Dinos, the "Dino Compendium" by Matthias Bartz, the latter in English language. The Italian paperwork is complete with the original green libretto ("Carta di Circolazione") and the Foglio Complimentare. A very rare opportunity to acquire an unmolested European example of the Dino 246 GTS in its original, rare and desirable colour combination with only two registered owners from new that is ready to be enjoyed!
