1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1
Meticulous Nut and Bolt Rotisserie Restoration, All Aluminum 351 Stroked to 428 Inches, Richmond 5 Speed, 400 Miles Since Restoration
This 1970 Mustang Mach 1 is Black Jade (a factory 1970 color) over a Black interior. It was rotisserie restored and built to impressive specifications for eye-watering performance. Unlike many "Pro Touring" or "Resto-Mod" cars built now, which are purely designed for show, this example has been built as a driver's car.
The centerpiece of the car is the motor, an aluminum unit built by well known race car engine builder Joe Fontana. He started with an aluminum 351 Cleveland, added aluminum Windsor heads and a full roller drivetrain. It blows its exhaust through custom long tube headers and side-mount exits. We are told a dyno reading indicated 560HP at the rear wheels. It makes an incredible sound and, when prodded, the revs jump almost instantaneously up the tachometer with no effort. It is incredibly responsive.
Having driven the car, we have no reason to doubt the dyno claim. It has rocket-quality acceleration, truly one of the more impressive accelerating cars we have driven in a very long time. The power is channeled through a 9 inch rear, Currie axles, a Richmond 5 speed and Global West suspension. The car has Wilwood discs front and rear. Inside is a full custom six point Autoform roll cage and underneath lies a custom tubular sub frame. It is also equipped with Corbeau seats in dark blue, which hold you tight and provide excellent support. The underside of the car is beautiful and every bit as well thought out as the top. The car has been only driven just over 400 miles since restoration, which accounts for its condition.
It is rare to find this level of taste, detail and craftsmanship. The specifications of the build and low miles since completion mean the car would be as happy in a concours show as it would be on a race track.
It is a self evident, quality example of the best of both eras, the nostalgic past coupled with extraordinary modern day performance. Bullitt would be proud.
