Alfa Romeo showed the spider for the first time at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. The public is very enthusiastic about the beautiful sporty roadster design of Pininfarina. This is also the last design of the master "Pinin" Farina: Battista "Pinin" Farina died in 1966. The Spider is based on the chassis of a Giulia 105 and is equipped with a 1600cc 4-cylinder engine with an output of 109 HP. This new Alfa Romeo gets the name "Duetto". Popularly all Spiders of this model are called "Duetto" but the name is officially only used for the 1600cc version.
In 1967 the Spider gets its first update. The Alfa Romeo Spider 1750 Veloce is presented on the Brussels motor show. The Veloce 4 cylinder 1750cc engine gets about 113 horsepower. In 1968 the Spider 1300 Junior was introduced with a smaller 1290 cc engine which delivered 89 HP. With the Fastback Spider in 1969 the styling changed considerably, and this for the first time. The biggest difference is that the wonderful "Sepia shell" is replaced by a fairly straight back.
This Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce is originally produced as a US model. It didn't go to the States but was delivered in the German city Frankfurt Am Main in June 1968. Thereafter the car remained in Germany. The last German registration ended in 1973.This Spider was found in Germany in the early 1990s with only 42,000 km on the counter.
Despite the low mileage an extensive restoration of the bodywork was necessary. No effort was spared in the restoration of this Spider. Where possible the original parts were used. For example this Spider has still the original taillights and door panels. The Veloce is painted in the color "Giallo Prototype", the color in which the Spider was presented to the public.
The technique is also fully revised. The "slow" U.S. camshafts are exchanged for much sharper GTV 1750 copies and the Spica injection (also for the American market) is exchanged for DellOrto DHLA 40 mm carburetors.
Only 4674 Alfa Romeo Spider 1750 Veloce's were built. Given the condition, the history and the present low mileage this is really a rare opportunity
