Italian registration - Beautiful presentation - One of the last of the "real" Rovers - Luxurious - No reserve In the 1950s, Rover displayed the image given by the high and dignified P4, affectionately known as "Auntie Rover". But it was time to modernize and so the Solihull firm began work on "Project 5", which was aimed at the luxury car market, a territory belonging to Jaguar till then. From a prototype by Pinin Farina at the request of Rover, the young designer David Bache designed an elegant body with modern lines that gave the car a distinctive personality. Displaying a wide grille and front fenders with inset head lamps, the shape was elegant and imposing. Refinement was an important aspect and special care was taken of the interior, with seats and door trims in leather, while wood adorned the dashboard. Under the hood of the P5, was the old six-cylinder, but bored out to 3 liters and developing 105bhp, which was not enough to really compete with Jaguar. In 1962, the Rover P5 gained a Weslake cylinderhead and power eventually rose to 132bhp. But it was in 1967 that the car finally received its due when the engine bay got the Buick 3.5 liter V8. An all alloy engine, the design was simple, robust and with 160bhp, finally allowed this beautiful Rover to offer its occupants performance corresponding to the image of the marque. This Rover P5 automatic in black comes in a beautiful state of preservation. Its leather interior in "Rolex" green is in good condition, and its owner told us that the mechanicals have been completely revised. It has always been stored away and very carefully, and the counter shows just 90,000km.
