Bentley Continental S2 "Sport Saloon" H.J. Mulliner
French title Engine n° A4BC - Same owner since 1975 - Rare and exclusive model - Performance, comfort, pleasure - Delivered new in France When it was launched in 1952, the Bentley Continental R was the most expensive car in the world. It was also the fastest four-seater, capable of 190 km/h. It was an amazing, ultra-quick 'salon', with an interior befitting a luxury model and a lengthy bonnet covering the 4.6-litre (later 4.9-litre) six-cylinder engine. The profile was bold for a car of this type, and was derived from the famous Bentley Embiricos, designed by Georges Paulin, which had been bodied by Pourtout and took part in the Le Mans 24 Hour Race. The first major evolution of the model was in 1959, when the six-cylinder engine was replaced with a V8 with automatic transmission. The 200 bhp powered the new Continental S2 to 200 km/h, and just 147 lefthand drive examples of this version were produced. The current owner bought this car in 1975. It was the fourth Continental S2 built, and undoubtedly the first to be delivered new in France. The plaque on the engine confirms that this car was delivered to Levallois by Franco Britannic Automobile, and it retains the old French registration. Since buying the car in 1975, the owner has always taken great care of it, and used to enjoy driving to London to have it serviced at Jack Barclay. Today, the car is in great, original condition, particularly the interior with beige seats displaying an inviting patina. The wooden dashboard, refurbished some ten years ago, has a look that combines sporty with luxury, typical of Bentley's charm. The exterior paintwork, redone a number of years ago, would benefit from being refreshed. The car still has the original toolkit in the special compartment in the boot. The original condition of this Bentley Continental with the same owner for more than 35 years accounts for part of its charm. The car's refinement, luxury and exclusivity do the rest.
