Citroën DS 19 berline
French title - Two owners since new - Very rare 1957 version - In excellent original condition - No reserve Citroen dropped a bombshell when they unveiled the DS at the 1955 edition of the Paris Motor Show. It resembled nothing of what the people knew: not only did it have a very advanced streamlined body that contrasted sharply with the automotive landscape of the post-war period, but the DS also symbolized a radical change in technology. Its chassis platform and front-wheel drive provided for a very roomy interior, whilst its steering and hydropneumatic suspension system provided for comfort levels worthy of the greatest luxury brands of those years. Today, the DS is considered by collectors across the globe as an exceptional piece of automotive history, both in its driving qualities and by the role it has played in the history of locomotion and place it occupies in the pantheon of the automobile. The car that we present was bought new on April 29, 1957 on behalf of Jean Roussillat, who was a grocer near the Church in Demigny in the Saône-et-Loire region of France. It is from him that the current owner bought the car from and since then he has had the car painted, and the headliner and fabric repaired, though everything else is in excellent original condition. All the mechanicals have been completely revised and checked. The odometer shows just 44,266km and the seller thinks that this is the correct figure, as the condition of the car is exceptional for a DS of this age. It is an early model, especially sought after today, given that they have become very rare. It has all the purity of the first version, with its round headlamps, its rectangular air intakes under the blade grille below the front bumper and its trademark slender reflectors. Finding a version from this period with only two owners is particularly exceptional, a fact that every fan of the DS will notice.
