CG 548 Prototype
French registration - A race car that is rare and effective - One of the last "Proto 548" survivors - € 260,000 spent for repairs, ready to run CG: a small company based in Seine-et-Marne, in France, made since 1966 a pretty coupe and a spider powered by Simca engines. Wanting to get into competition, CG took the advice of Bernard Boyer who advised them a complete overhaul: the body and chassis were extensively modified and a supercharger by Constantin was grafted, and the treatment resulted in a reduction of weight of 548kg, thus the baptismal name of "Proto 548". This particular car has a very special story regarding the current owner. A competitor in historic competition for the last twenty years in many disciplines, the current owner set out to find a car "out of the ordinary". In 2006, he saw this car and immediately decided to acquire it. The car required a major overhaul, so it is was initially assigned to the preparer Jean-Paul Paoli, and then a more thorough restoration was carried out by Jean-Luc Bolla in 2009. The chassis and body were completely renovated (2,600 aviation style rivets each riveted by hand!), and a roll bar was installed to current standards. The mechanicals were also given a significant upgrade for reliability, and electrical harnesses of the racing type were put in. Thus, the carburetor and the superchargers were changed, a special camshaft mounted, all now offering a max power of 16b hp, in short, a very power car for a 1300. The Simca 'box was replaced by a five-speed Porsche type 901 gearbox in accordance with changes already made at the time. Plus another significant improvement - the front suspension, which had leaf springs, a more effective double wishbone system was installed. This car's last race was at the historic Tour de Corse last October with Bernard Fiorentino, the famous and brilliant racer for the CG brand. The NWP is underway and will be effective for sale. The owner had no consideration for the cost of the total repair of his car as he told us, the total adding up to € 260,000! This little berlinetta is splendid in all respects and is ready to run in all historic rallies. Charming and undeniably effective, a car all ready to be taken full advantage off of the quality work performed: this is what this rare and nice CG Proto offers.
