Alfa Romeo Boxer
Competition car - A genuine Alfa Romeo single seater racing car - Driven by F1 driver - Easy to run - No reserve - Ex Andrea Montermini In the mid-1980s, a new series began in Italy that was more competitive than the well-known Formula Ford and less expensive than Formula 3. The Alfa Romeo Boxer was created by Alfa Romeo, fitted to the reliable Boxer engine, a 1,712cc, 8-valve, 4-cylinder engine in the Alfa 33. It was subsequently fitted with a four-valve per cylinder engine. With a good weight/power ratio (150 bhp per 450 kg), a 4 and later 5 speed Hewland Mk 9 gearbox, slick tyres and adjustable aerodynamics, this single seater provided an opportunity for young talent to hone their skills. The well-known F1 driver from Modena, Andrea Montermini, finished the 1987 season third in this racing car, with three victories and a 2nd place. He went on to compete in the Italian F3 Championship, then F3000, before racing in F1 during 1995 and 1996. The car in the sale is set up as version 2, that's to say with the 16S engine and 5-speed gearbox. The vendor informs us that after a basic inspection, it is ready to race. Various spare parts accompany the car, along with its ACI/CSAI book. This Alfa Boxer is a genuine Alfa Romeo racing car, raced by a successful F1 driver, and is easy to maintain compared to a Formula 3 car from the same period. The perfect mount to learn in, or take part in single seater races for different formulae, which are becoming more popular.
