Mercedes 220 SEB cabriolet
French title - Two owners, continuous history - Beautifully conserved original condition - Delivered new in France - In the present ownership since 1965 The elegant styling of this Mercedes earned it the name " ponton ", compared with the pre-war models it succeeded. First appearing at the start of the 1950s, initially as a saloon, it symbolised the resurgence of the marque and its excellent build quality and robustness. Fitted with different engines, from 1958 it benefitted from fuel injection on the six-cylinder 2.2-litre engine which was the most powerful in the series. This is what equips the 220 SEB on offer. The car was delivered new in France by Garage Charles Delcroix -Royal Elysées to the first owner, an enthusiast for navigation, who fitted a marine frequency radio, as well as an auto-search Becker radio, which are both still in the car. In 1965, it passed into the hands of the current owner, who has held onto it ever since. He has used it primarily as a car for his holidays, in Cap Ferret and later in Luberon, from the end of the 1970s. It has, however, retained its original Parisian registration, which features a rare two-letter number. Always carefully maintained, the car was resprayed and the hood refurbished during the 1990s. In 2008, work was carried out by the workshop Gastoulette, on the rear axle and the servo-assisted brakes which are new. Today, the odometer reads 169,000 km which is the original mileage according to the owner. The car is presented in superb condition, with a beautifully preserved red leather interior that displays a lovely patina. The car, with its excellent six-cylinder injection engine, can comfortably carry four passengers, with the hood down, in the style that befits a Mercedes of this era. This is a two-owner car, complete with a dossier of bills, that has been driven regularly and never mistreated. A rare find and one that must be of interest to a demanding collector.
