Few cars turn heads like a Cobra. The noise, the shape, the racing history, and the mystique make for one of America's most recognizable icons. This is a bulletproof Factory Five kit, powered by a stout small block and sporting just over 1300 one-owner original miles! There are a LOT of companies that'll be glad to sell you a replica, but we're really impressed with the Factory Five setups. There's a ton of engineering in the chassis, they're largely based on indestructible 5 liter Mustang running gear, they're raced extensively, and they're easy to service. In fact, FFRs are the best-selling replicas of all time-that ought to tell you something! The FFR kit comes nearly complete, but there are still a pile of decisions to make. Start outside: Obviously, the color choice is yours, and this one's a classic in Guardsman Blue with bright white stripes, just like the original competition cars in the 60's. You rarely see a Factory 5 car with poor shut lines, but this one's obviously seen some extra care-the gaps are spot on. The bodywork and paint were $12,000 alone, so you know this wasn't a cheap build. Talbot-style side mirrors are on both fenders, a chrome windshield protects your view while a single chrome roll bar hoop is behind you. A Le Mans fuel cap, Lucas turn and brake lenses, big 427 fender badges and aluminum fender gills hit all the right buttons. Inside, black leather chairs greet you. Simpson four-point harnesses hold you tight while a Moto-Lita style wheel falls to hand. The base FFR leaves you to reuse the Mustang gauges, but there's a full complement of Classic Industries electronic units in the dash here, with a speedometer that even swings counterclockwise as original. Drilled aluminum pedals and black carpeting are at your feet, there's a fire extinguisher within reach, and self-canceling turn signals are on the column. Nothing else is here, nor is it needed-this is a driver's car through and through. Twist the latches on the hood and reveal a 306 cubic inch roller small block Ford with some nice goodies. Those are Ford Motorsport Y303 heads under the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and carb, all topped off with Ford Racing Cobra accessories. The mill certainly sounds the part thanks to an old school X303 cam, which for years was the wildest piece in the 5-liter catalog. Power is sent back through a T5 five speed transmission to a Mustang 8.8 rear with Traction-Lok. Cooling duties are handled by an upgraded Griffin aluminum radiator with twin cooling fans, while a few more ponies are set loose with March underdrive pulleys. The exhaust is barely muffled by the ceramic coated side pipes running under the doors. Coil overs set the ride height, while Team 3 AC III wheels are at all corners, surrounded by BFGoodrich rubber, 245/60/15 front and 295/50/15 rear. This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
