With curvaceous lines and a luxurious, wood-trimmed interior, Jaguar’s Mk II provided a compelling alternative to conventional family cars wrapped in a uniquely trim and sensuous package. Considered by many experts to be the world’s first true sports sedan, the Mk II was comprehensively updated for 1960 and performance was further heightened with Jaguar’s famous DOHC 3.8-liter engine. In fact, with 3.8-liter power, the Mk II gained fame as the world’s fastest car of its type during the early-1960s. Additionally, the Mk II was equipped with a comprehensive package of sporting features, including a tachometer, limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, and a choice of automatic or manual gearboxes. With 220 horsepower on tap, the Mk II 3.8 accelerated from rest to 60 mph in as quickly as 8.5 seconds en route to a top speed of 125 mph – a truly impressive performance now as then. It was equally well suited to the rigors of long-distance racing and in 1961, the Mk II broke four world records in the 3-to-5 liter class, averaging 106.58 mph over 10,000 miles! The Mk II also dominated saloon-car racing and even the gruelling Tour de France, which it won from 1960 to 1963. It is no wonder, then that Jaguar’s Mk II also gained notoriety as the preferred getaway car for London’s gangsters, matched by the constabulary in their own stripped-down Mk II 3.8s during the “Swinging ‘60s”. Completely restored during the late-1990s with the DOHC XK engine, automatic gearbox, and drivetrain rebuilt as well, this left-hand drive, 3.8-liter Jaguar Mk II Sedan from 1962 is simply a wonderful example of these stylish and highly spirited performers. Finished in Classic White with the passenger cabin trimmed in red hides and matching carpeting, the Mk II is also very well equipped for today’s rigorous driving conditions with modern air conditioning, a high-capacity alloy radiator, and power steering. Chrome wire wheels and redline tires complete the period presentation. Driven only sparingly since restoration but always properly serviced, this handsome and highly equipped 1962 Jaguar Mk II Sedan now stands ready to provide its fortunate new owner with a wonderful driving experience plus equal measures of quintessentially British 1960s styling and luxury.
