Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder, January 16th-20th, 2013 at Russo and Steele's 13th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction. Please contact us for more information. In 1961 this 1955 Chevrolet Convertible came to Tucson, Arizona from Smithtown, New York. After the owner’s daughter abused the car and destroyed the engine, it was retired to the desert outside of Tucson where it sat for 6 years. A Phoenix resident with hopes for restoring it purchased it in 1969 and parked it under cover at his home for another 21 years, but never got around to lifting a wrench. The current owner purchased this car in January 1998 as a solid, never touched, all parts there restoration project. A frame off restoration was performed over the next 7 years to restore this beautiful car from its previous desert grave. The finest craftsmen in the Phoenix/Tucson area were utilized to return the original body, stainless, chrome, interior and chassis to better than new condition. Under the hood, a brand new Chevrolet 350 crate engine with 330 HP was installed to power the drive train which includes a rebuilt 350 turbo automatic transmission and a rebuilt differential with new 3:36 gears. The ignition system includes an HEI distributor and MSD electronic ignition, and all new fuel tank and fuel system components bring the fuel to the 650 CFM Holley carburetor. The engine exhaust flows through Sanderson headers and out the dual exhaust system. A “605” power steering conversion was also added, and to stop under all of that power the braking system was upgraded to include a power booster and front disk brakes. A Secret Audio stereo system is mounted behind the dash with kick panel speakers and the controller mounted in the glove box. For comfort in the driver seat, the interior is cooled by a Vintage Air air-conditioning system controlled via the stock heater controls. Other than the Cragar S/S wheels and BF Goodrich TA tires, when you see this car in a show you may think it is all original. All the updates under the hood and behind the dash make it the perfect cruiser, and with only 3400 miles since the completion of the restoration there is a lot of cruising left!
