It's 1965, and you want a jet-age convertible. While most cars had become boring, you could still walk into your local Ford dealer and order a new Thunderbird. Sure, it had squared off a bunch since it was introduced, but it had the length, the lights and the interior out of a futuristic movie. Shipped new to the Salt Lake City area, this big 'Bird is in great shape and ready to roll. Frost Turquoise, the original color, flows smoothly from hood to deck lid. The door gaps are tight and the long, long quarter panels are straighter than most. Both bumpers are in very nice shape. The taillights are sequential (1965 was the first year for them) and are the same ones you'll find on a '68 Shelby, proving they look great everywhere! The convertible top is newer and the rear window is nice and clear. Lights, lenses and emblems are all in their proper places. Hood turn signals, dual mirrors and Thunderbird logos add to the appeal. Finally, that's a factory tonneau cover over the rear seats, painted in the exterior color and with the interior color as an accent. It's an amazing looking option that should have been standard equipment! Inside, you'll be comfortable on new covers wrapping the cushy bucket seat frames. That big wheel is no problem on entry or exit, thanks to the Tilt-A-Way steering column. The gauges look like they're from Lost in Space, while the HVAC levers are quite obviously jet inspired. The original door panels are very nice, as is the dash. Power accessories are numerous, including power windows, power locks, power steering, power brakes and an AM radio. Custom rubber floor mats with the Thunderbird logo rest at your feed. The center console flows from the dash and completes the cockpit feel. Open the trunk and you'll find a deep enough well to carry an awful lot. The original floor liners are intact, and the spare tire is where it should be. Under the hood is the Z code, 300 horsepower 390 cubic inch FE motor, running and looking exactly as it should. You're in for plenty of worry-free miles, too, since the carburetor was just rebuilt, there are new spark plugs and wires, and an electronic ignition was added. Gold covers the air cleaner and valve covers as it should, and there are new decals in place. The factory air conditioning is intact from compressor to evaporator core, and the engine is bolted to a C6 automatic which was rebuilt fewer than 1000 miles ago. There's a venerable 9-inch rear out fitted with highway friendly 3.00 gears, and a newer dual exhaust system allows the car to breathe while holding noise to a light rumble. The floor pans are in excellent shape and a clear indication of this car's western roots. The wheels are another head turner-factory style Kelsey-Hayes wires with whitewall tires. It's the perfect finish to a car like this! This is a nice, heavy cruiser, capable of eating up miles like nothing. It holds two as-is, or four with the tonneau stored at home.
