1971 Volkswagen Beetle ( USD 15995 )

With an unusual and attractive color combination like this, it's easy to fall in love with the VW Beetle all over again. Bubbles here is in exactly the right condition to enjoy, fully sorted but seasoned enough that you can just jump in and go whenever the urge grabs you. In addition to the Beetle's already sunny disposition, Bubbles' light green finish adds a bright attitude that makes you want to jump in and find a beach. The color wasn't on the VW charts in 1971, but no matter, it looks right and colors really have zero effect on Beetle values anyway. What you get instead of some corporate hue is a nicely finished little convertible with straight, rust-free bodywork and paint that has wonderful patina to match its vintage looks. It shines up nicely, and I'm betting that you'll enjoy giving it a wash every Saturday before grabbing your friends and heading out to have some fun. The other classic VW details are completely intact, however, including the chrome bumpers, running boards, and VOLKSWAGEN script on the deck lid. This one also carries the desirable small taillights, a set of headlight visors, and a curved windshield that makes a big difference in terms of how spacious it feels inside. Speaking of inside, it's been restored in tan instead of the usual black, again a wonderful choice with the light green paint. Handsome pleated seat covers with dark tan piping give it an upscale feel that completely disguises the VW's utilitarian origins (especially since that by 1971, the VW Beetle convertible was no longer a bargain-priced beater). Matching two-tone door panels offer a clever map pocket and a retro-looking pull handle. The original wheel has been wrapped in tan leather, and the single large round speedometer also houses the fuel gauge. Why the car is called "Bubbles" we can't say, but since it's written on the glove box, that's what we call it. Bubbles' entertainment system consists of a Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo head unit and a set of color-matched speakers in the custom kick panels. There's a matching tan convertible top and boot, which I suspect you'll be using frequently, and the forward trunk includes a full-sized spare tire. Power comes from the typical 1600 cc VW flat four, whose characteristic sound has been a part of the automotive landscape for more nearly three-quarters of a century. The engine bay is quite tidy with none of the usual aftermarket hop-up parts, just careful maintenance of a very clean southern VW. The original floorpan is solid, albeit a bit grungy, but that's only because it's original and with that in mind, Bubbles is quite nicely preserved. A 4-speed manual transmission is, of course, the transmission of choice, and it wears a set of very handsome Minilite-style wheels with 165-80-15 Nexen radials. A clean, great-driving VW Beetle convertible in great colors that's sure to attract a lot of attention. What could be better next summer? Call today!
